Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are

  • 02/16/09 4:41 am
Friday night, I was feeling all sorts of creative. There were magnets. I ended up making a collage- second one in a week. But then I got lazy.

Yesterday was one of those days where you expect it to be bad, get hope that it might be otherwise, and then it ends up being all the worse for it. The highlight of it was having breakfast with Liz. I'm so happy I got to see her! That makes something like twice in two months (which is really good for me). Then came work, and work was shit. I was pretty much by myself for most of the day, which sucks, because it was slow, and it's nice to have people to talk to. They got someone to help me for the dinner shift, and she was pretty good at handling herself and all. Except she was atrocious when it comes to cleaning up. We started early, and I still didn't get out of there until 8:25. Also, I had to do the grills, which while not being as bad as usual, was still kind of annoying. After that, I came back and did laundry, and just chilled.

Today was decent. I woke up nice and late, chilled, and went to Walmart. I ended up having to rush a little so as not to miss the bus, but I didn't forget anything too important. I'm probably going to end up at Wegman's on Friday, since I realized my jeans got worn through, and I want to have at least 4 pairs. Came back, wasted time. At 6:30, I went to work, since someone needed up leave early. It was one of the best days of work every, I swear. I was only there about 2.5 hours, so not enough to get exhausted. No big rush. I took my food to go, and had a really nice dinner afterward while watching Buffy. Right now I'm doing a little reading. Later, I really want to get through at least one of my netflix movies, since I've had them both over a week. No late fees are nice, but it's money down the drain if you don't use it, you know? (My mailbox-mate apparently got Netflix as well. This may cause confusion).

Joss Whedon is my master now (again); also, I saw people! & missed the bus :\

Yesterday. I ended up having to run to the back to get the money for the deposit out, and to deposit some of my own money. Naturally, I missed the bus. This is proving to be a bad habit- it better not carry over to next semester. Was slightly late for Politics of the EU, but that was okay. We had a pop quiz, but that was later in the class. Political Anthro consisted of talking about rational and reactive subjects. Wasted the break a little. Medieval Magic was interesting-ish. She liked to teach through primary sources, and actually does a much better job of it than some professors I've had. Evening consisted of getting an outline ready for discussion and watching Buffy. Kind of unexciting.

Today. Discussion went well. Research in Human Rights and Labor was interesting as well. Instead of practice coding, the professor described some work that he's been doing, about difference in respect for human rights of former communist countries in the pre- and post-Soviet era. It's actually a subject that I'm greatly interested in, so it was cool to see some of his results. Only downside was that I ended up sitting next to this REALLY annoying person. I was saving a seat for Juin, and she came in and decided she was going to sit there. When the sign-in sheet was going around, she asked if she could use my pen, and snatched it before I could say anything. And then, she spent a good portion of the class period flipping through a magazine: i have no idea why the professor didn't say anything. If I get her as a coding partner, it's not going to be happy.

Anyway, after that, I was going to the Town Square Mall, and I bumped into Tina and Cecelia! I haven't seen either of them in forever, and I ended up going with them to the Chinese Buffet. It was nice, although awkward (they're all Chinese except me). Their friends seemed kind of impressed that I could use chopsticks well and had taken a year of Chinese. Yep. After that, I went with Cecelia to A.C.Moore- she needed stuff for her drawing class, and I wanted to make magnets. Then back to campus. I think I'm going to end up going back there, because I still need a masher thing. I grabbed a salad from the dining hall. Spent a good portion of the evening watching television. Dollhouse premiere! So amazing. I love Joss Whedon. I loved the little clips with Summer and Eliza during commercials. Also, Battlestar Galactica. I really want to know what Starbuck is. And Sam better not be a vegetable, because Sam is awesome.

Maybe I can't hold a grudge because I'm so lazy?

Yesterday: radio show. It went okay. I didn't fuck up on air. It actually would've been wonderful if not for two things: first of all, the station was in low drive cause there were people on the roof, and since I've only had shows during non-working hours, I've never had to deal with that, so I was confused. Bonus of having a show during proper hours: there are people in the station, so I can ask. Other downside was creepy dude that was there. At first I mistook him for a DJ, so I let him into the record library, which I wasn't supposed to. So I was stuck with him for that time frame, and had people telling me I wasn't supposed to let him in *headdesk* Anyway. Stuff. Productivity. Politics of the EU was insanely boring. Political Anthropology was interesting. Medieval Magic and Witchcraft was really good. We watched a bit of a movie, which was fantastic for a number of reasons: 1) the teacher was having tech trouble, and this amazingly hot TA (I'm assuming he's a TA) went to work on it. It was kind of distracting 2) It was old, and therefore corny, but in a really funny way. Rest of the night wasn't exciting. I finished the story part of the book I was reading. I'm not counting it done til I get through the appendix though. I'd rather give myself credit for the full 800 pages. Anyway: last night, I had the hardest time falling asleep. I swear that it took at least two hours. And I had a really weird dream that involved people going sledding off an airplane, and this bizarre sushi set.

Today. Not very exciting. I'm trying to get the housing figured out. I have the application, but I have no idea where to sent it, so I'm going to call tomorrow. I can just email it back, but since it does have some personal information on it (like my social security number), I don't feel comfortable doing that until I verify that the email down belong to the landlords. Better safe than sorry. Research in Human Rights was good. No major debate though. Stuff. Work. Gah- I think I've finally accepted that I need to get my ankle looked at. Except I'm tempted to put it off until Spring break, because Health Services here is a joke. It was hurting so bad by the end of the night. Otherwise, it was good. Got back in time to watch Lost. Yay Jin! Shower, and then conversation with my suite, in which it was revealed that we basically all hated Kelly. On a completely unrelated note, at some point, Juin said that she's horrible at holding grudged because she's so lazy. It made me think: could that be the case for me? I can be lazy as hell, and I can't hold a grudge. My sister, who is the opposite of lazy, can hate you for weeks if you tick her off in the slightest.

Cherries are delicious, you know?

  • 02/10/09 2:55 am
So... yesterday. Uber productive. Woke up, food. Went to Wegmans to do grocery shopping. Only spent $35, which was good considering the fact that I had to buy laundry detergent, and treated myself to cherries. Then, because it was so nice out, I beat my carpet clean outside. It got me some weird stares, but it works much better than the mini-vacuum. Anyway, that naturally meant I had to clean, so I did. Then I went to the gym. See? Productive. I also read a little of the reading I have to do, but heavens: SO BORING! I think I'm going to see if I can find the answers to the questions first, and then go back and read the rest. I spent a good deal of the night reading for fun. I have less than 30 pages from finishing this goddamn book.

Today: no class! At some point I was going to go to the post office to mail stuff out, but then I had an appointment to look at an apartment, and realized that the bus ran every half hour as opposed to every 20 minutes, so I had to run. I'm going to take this apartment- it's cheaper than the other place, but bigger. The trip is more even, since the bus stop is halfway; also, the bus stop is right there, across the street, as opposed to a block away. And there's a CVS and a Giant 2-3 blocks away. The neighborhood, I'm not sure about: it's this really strange mix of crappy and nice. Mildly mind-boggling. I do like it a lot though. Anyway, I got back and wasted some time, then work. It was nice, went pretty quickly. There was cornbread for dinner, and they had fresh spinach for once, so that was nice. Cleaning up was ridiculously fast: half an hour. I ended up helping on salad for a little bit. Came back, and showered. Now I have to do a response for Politics of the EU and make a playlist for my radio show. I should probably do the playlist first though, since my Ipod needs to charge (excuses, excuses).

A number of things that make me happy. Geekiness.

Yesterday... history discussion wasn't bad. Had stuff to say, and volunteered to present for next week, to get it out of the way. In research, more practice coding. Argument of the day focused on Brazil and whether it had complete or some religious freedom. After that, I ended up going to Unos with people. Fish and chips! The waitress was rude though. Then other places. There was an adorable kitty in a pet store. Evening was uneventful. Buffy. Battlestar Galactica! I love that show. I wasn't expecting Roslin's speech to have that sort of power. Then stuff. I was feeling irritable and bored, but I ended up going to bed early.

Today... woke up. Watched some clips on Dollhouse- less than a week! It's going to be amazing- I mean Joss Whedon! Also, Tammoh Penikett is all sorts of pretty. Work was decent. Really slow. Dinner was good, although I really can't wait to move off campus and have real food. Dining hall food makes me feel sick, honestly. I got out at 8:20, but that's only because I volunteered to help elsewhere once Baja was done. Got paid: $155.04! Pretty paycheck. Got back, and saw the programming schedule for this semester. I'm liking my slot: Tuesdays 11:30-1. It's possibly the best slot I've had so far. It's during the daytime, but not crack of dawn type stuff (like that stupid 8:30 am slot I had). Also, I like the people who come before and after me: Sam and Matt. Nice. Also, adding to the goodness, it's ridiculously warm here: 42. All the windows are open, airing the rooms out. It's just nice. If I hadn't had to work today, I would've taken my carpet outside to shake it out. I can be very old-country sometimes. But the vacuum doesn't do a good enough job, and I'm not getting a full-size one.

Tomorrow's to-do list:
- call to reschedule looking at an apartment
- shopping
- carpet?
- gym?
