Mark (clinical instructor) must have known I needed some excitement in my life tuesday morning, because he decided to group the other four students into two groups of two and take one vent patient and he sent me out to shadow another RT to help with his other five or six vents in the ICU. It was awesome, haha. The patients we usually get are usually grandpa's end-stage COPD or the like, but since I was shadowing a "real" assignment, I got to meet the patients with the crazy stories. We have a patient with a self inflicted gunshot wound - entering his chin, through his tongue and out his eye. It was...intriguing. His chin was bandaged, his eye was stitched shut and his tongue...well you know how peoples tongues swell when they have them pierced? Now imagine what happens when you trade that needle in for a close range .38 caliber bullet. There's no fixing that. We also had a couple fresh MVAs. One specifically was a young kid about my age going at a high rate of speed, with a girl ( i assume his baby's mama) in the passenger seat and an infant in the back. Hit a wall. He's in bad shape, she died at the scene and his nurse hadn't heard yet about the baby. Quite tragic. There was quite a few other interesting cases from a more medical standpoint - I had a patient with the most classic case of rhonchi I'd ever heard - but there not so great storywise.

I've been lurking the past few days checking out the new kiwibox, and decided to go ahead and make an entry. I'm trying to get it to grow on me, and I think it will eventually, but it shouldn't take DAYS to get the hang of navigating a site. Maybe it's because we're use to one way and it won't affect new members as badly, but with three columns and no drop-downs on the front page for navigation...doubtful. I'm not even sure when I last made an entry, but I'm sure not a whole lot has changed. I've moved into the ICU with my clinicals which is a whole lot more interesting than floor therapy. My schedule however is a bit overwhelming: Monday/Wednesday0900-1500 Mechanical Ventilation Tuesday/Thursday0630-1500 Clinicals 1730-2130 Microbiology + lab Basically, I have barely enough time to study, let alone have a life. David is up in Jacksonville doing his two weeks of training. Next year he's doing three weeks and then he'll probably be deployed again. I've decided that if that does happen I'm either going to continue my education and get certified in sleep labs or I'm going to be a traveling temp RT for a year. Depends on how money is really. I'll make $35+ as a traveling temp RT, but it would be just floor care mostly. If I go back to school I'll just be working locally for $17-20. If I can manage to balance Mechanical Vent and Micro this summer. I don't know what I was thinking. I don't have enough hours in my weekends to study for both it seems. Basically life is boring and overwhelming for me at the same time. Now to go back to studying. Quarantine Message Boards. it's easy to navigate, I swear it! lawl.

[bgcolor=3d3a1b] Time for a monthly update y/n? Well, let's see. David is gone for another four weeks (out of a total of five) for work training in ARKANSAS. Apparently it's Dullsville, not that I'm surprised. How sad is it that I'm just glad that I get a break from CoD4? Seriously that game is like crack for that boy. But yeah I hear from him at least twice a day so really I'm doing quite fine. The night before he left we went to the casino with the in-laws. David I both took out $10 each and figured we'd be done in 10 minutes. I got mine up to $30 and I was all excited about that and then he walks around the corner and shows me he won $460. Craziness. We ended up saving that and splitting my $30 between the two of us to keep playing. He ran out and I got $60, so we ended up pocketing $500 that night. I went shopping for the first time in ages with some of our winnings. I got two new pairs of jeans, two tops, a new dress, a pair of heeled sandals, and some undies. I'm at that awkward in between sizes time with jeans though. threes are two small and fives are a little big. I went with the fives to see how that goes. Clinicals at TGH were AMAZING. I love what I'm doing so much (apart from having to wake up before 5am to get ready and get there on time). This next week I'm starting at UCH though. let's just hope I don't get thrown off the deep end like the last bunch. We also started practicing arterial punctures this past Thursday. I got it on the first try. Here's to getting it right every time! >_< ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stxntv0KkBEmore info on arterial punctures[/link]). Lecture has been going surprisingly decent so far this semester. It's still full of Professor Espresso* being a complete nutcase half of the time but I've been fairing well with an 'A' in Basic Respiratory and a 'B' in Cardiopulmonary Pathology. And an 'A' in Clinic I'm sure. Now if I can just keep that up. I believe that's all for right now. http://quarantinemb.com/index.phpYou all know where to find me.[/link] * pseudonym; someone didn't pick up on that last time.
