April Fool's Wrap Up + College

  • 04/03/09 2:46 pm
So I was just reading through people's journals about April Fool's Day (I'm late - I know) and I am so disappointed to hear Kiwibox was prankless. Come on guys!! Some of the best pranks are committed swiftly and effortlessly within seconds... I might just institute May Fool's Day!

My Wednesdays quite school-y and filled with scary professors (and presentations - UGH!) so I didn't get to commit any pranks on the special day, but I couldn't let it go unnoticed, so a few days before, I took the liberty of hiding each one of my roommate's like, 700 pillows (I exaggerate. But there are a LOT!). I put one in the shower, one in the fridge, one between a pipe and the ceiling... all over the place. It was hysterical watching her frantically run around our tiny little room like her butt was on fire looking for the last one. Totally worth it. Then, in the wee hours of April Fool's, someone outside our little haven spread something gooey and gross on our doorknob, like glue or vaseline. Old, but still clever. And since I wasn't the one to touch it, I didn't care! [;)]

So my school year is kinda sorta gearing down. I have about 4 weeks left, and I get to go home at the end of this coming week for four days! The ice cream shop by my house is open for the season (it's the best one in the WORLD, Coldstone has NOTHING on it) and although it's a 45 minute drive there from my boyfriend's house, I'm so taking him there like the second I get home.

I found out yesterday that I only have 21 credits remaining until I'm eligible to graduate. 21! That's ONE class over what's considered a "full courseload." So, theoretically, if I wanted to pay $4500+ to graduate a semester early, I could, but... well... No. I'm over school but I'm still going to hold off the real world for as long as I can.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Got pranked? Pranked someone else? What's the story?

College + Spring is Springing

  • 03/27/09 7:09 pm
Hi Kiwis! Today completes my first week (well, almost) post-spring break. Last week, I turned 21 (finally) and spent some good quality time with my family and boyfriend. The week was way too short, but I know I only have like, 6 weeks left of school. The other good news: Spring is finally starting to spring in New York. The weather today is magnificent, after a pretty horrid day yesterday, but I don't know how long the warm weather is prone to stick around.

I have to say I was a little reminiscent today when I was reading through all the college articles. As a college student, I know first-hand the trials and tribulations the first year brings. In my freshman dorm, you HAD to wear flip-flops in the shower, not just because you were sharing close feet-quarters, but the floor of the shower was made out of something rocky, so that you wouldn't slip. If you didn't want a) gross fungus and b) bloody feet, you protected yourself. I got lucky though, because for the past two years, I've had a private bathroom. And, I've managed to get away without anything high-tech. While I don't get to share in the fun of having something new and exciting, I save tons of money. (Ahem... Dear Boyfriend, Please buy me a Mac. Love, Patricia)

Warning to anyone going off to college in the fall: it's harder than it looks. I go to one of the most respected business schools in the northeast, and it's getting more and more challenging everyday. On the bright side, I know that I have a future in this crap economy.

I'll pay someone $1 to do my Managerial Accounting homework... any takers?!

Interning - Birthdays!!

  • 03/13/09 3:43 pm
Hi Kiwis!! For those of you who've been around, I'm a name you definitely don't know yet. My name is Patricia, and I'm a marketing intern here at Kiwibox. Basically, what that means is that I'm a student, and Kiwibox is letting me learn hands-on for them! I'm in the second half of my third year in college in New York City and I'm 20 - for three more days! That's right, my 21st birthday is this Monday, right in the middle of spring break and the day before St. Patrick's Day. I'm excited that I'll have all the privileges of an adult, but I'll always be a kid at heart.

So being an intern is pretty easy I guess, especially in such a chill, laid-back environment. There is no stress in this office, it's so lovely. What's difficult, though, is going from the relatively easy schedule of college life (you know... scheduling your class for 1:30 pm so you can sleep late, naps in between classes) back to a five-day week and actually having to get dressed in the morning! What a hard life! [;)] Kidding! But don't get me wrong, school, on all levels, is definitely stressful.

I've been reading the journals that everyone from the Kiwibox office has been posting, and I guess I never realized how people stress about Friday the 13th!! I'm taking the train home upstate today and even my mother told me, "Maybe you want to wait until tomorrow... it's Friday the 13th after all." What?! The most superstitious I get is making sure the cards are in the right order when I'm playing Solitaire (they HAVE to go Black, Red, Black, Red) but that's more of a habit than anything else. I walk under ladders, if I step on someone's foot I don't make them step on mine, I think black cats are gorgeous, and my luck seems to be okay. I can't even reference the movies about Friday the 13th - I will not ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER watch horror movies. Can't. Won't. Please don't try and make me because I start crying even when I think about it. Excuse me while I go get a tissue...

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What do you guys think is a good way to get people talking about Kiwibox? And what would you like to hear from me?
