This piece on attracting visitors to you website by Emily S. appeared in Issue 46 - Summer Concerts. A very useful article, it gives us pointers on how to attract visitors to our websites; if you have a website, you should definately check this article out! -Sarah

So, you learn the HTML code. You worked for hours to make your page look neat. You put in a counter to count the millions of people you just KNOW will come see it. You wake up the next morning and check out your page. According to the counter, NO ONE has been to your page.

Sound familiar? Stress no more, I'm going to lend you a few of my tips on how to get people to visit your website, and how to get over fifty people to sign your guestbook. All these ideas are proven successful, as they have all worked on my own personal website (http://emilys.kiwitown.com).

Contests
Start a contest on your page for guestbook signers. The prize offered would be a huge link on the front page of your site that leads directly to that person's homepage. The prize would be awarded to the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, etc, people who sign your guestbook. This is a good idea because it gets people signing, and at the same time creates sort of a sister site operation between your site and the winner's.

hey, i know another great way to get people to look at your site.
if you want your background to be white, put the white code in
your html. it's annoying to look at pages that are supposed to be
white, but arent because they didn't put the code it. just
remember not everybody's default background colour is white (even
if yours is)

*keep your site clean, this will make visitors not digusted
*sign others guest books with positive comments, and reminding
them that you linked them to your site, and to make it fair...link
you back. (you have to link them for sure!!!)
*always add more to your sites, making sure that it doesn't take
long to open it.
*join webrings, and make the deicription, make the site worth
it!!!
*join lotta cliques, and have some of your own,
*try to get awards, and make some for others, so they can link it
back to you...
* Join...www.traffic.com so you can get traffic in your site!!!
*don't copy off of people...that will make them made, and they
will tell others not to visit your site!

would like to look at. don't use flourescent colors or dark
graphics in the background. less is more in the web design world.

thanx 4 the tips but i duno about the contest one for the
gb...like i dont think ppl would rilly go 4 that just 2 get a link
2 their homepage on ur site. probly the ppl that were gonna sign
it anyways would sign it but i doubt if it would motivate other
ppl to sign it. anyways i put my site on email signatures so i
