Women in Technology and Science

Revolutionizing the industries

When you think about famous figures in technology, some names pop up before any others. Those names can include Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Linus Torvalds, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page among many others. In fact, technology could even be viewed as a male dominated industry - especially in the gaming area. In the spirit of this issue, we'll take a look at how women have contributed to science and technology.

There were many women who have contributed to modern technology. Think about it. A woman created the first computer program, one of the most important events to occur in history. In the 80s, programmers were mostly women while men did the hardware aspect. However today, the percentage of women in this field has declined to less than half of what it was before. In this article, we'll celebrate the contributions that women have made to technological fields.

Awesome article. I almost feel more impowered because of it.
Women should definately go out there and take over the Science &
Technology world! :D
nice article - i honestly really enjoyed it
Great article! I plan on having a career in science (not so much
tech focused, but biology), and I found this article was very
inspiring. More girls should be encouraged in these fields.
Other important female scientists include Marie and Irčne Curie, a
mother-daughter team of French scientists who did work with
radiation.

Again, good job!
expanding your horizons is a really good program. it's for young
women grades 8-12 and they go just for a day and participate in
two workshops they sign up for. there are also i think two
speakers? that are really influential women in science/math
fields, one at the beginning of the day and another at the end for
closing. there's also a career fair where women representing many
diff. careers are 1) giving out free fun stuff 2) telling you
about what they do if you're interested and how you can get
started if you're thinking about pursuing something like that in
the future. it's really great, it's basically to expose young
women to math and science careers. im not sure if it's just my
area that has it or if it's a national thing? im pretty sure it's
a big thing..if not then it should be! haha
The field of Engineering, Math, and Science is a broad and
interesting field of which I am a part. This is a great article
and more women should be encouraged to follow similar career
paths.
