Don't let untruths put you in danger

Since I first began to visit the sex board on Kiwibox, I have been surprised to discover that many young women are not receiving the proper sex education either at home or at school, and are instead relying on equally uninformed peers for their knowledge. This has led to many personal experiences (in most cases, luck) being relied upon as truth. Many girls continue to become pregnant or contract STDs on a daily basis simply because there are myths circulating that are taken as truths. Here, I will uncover some of the most common myths about sex, and hopefully will help someone along the way.

Pregnancy Myths

"He didn't cum in me, so I can't get pregnant"
This is completely untrue. An aroused man unwillingly will release something called pre-ejaculate, or pre-cum, which contains several sperm that are just as alive and active as the other semen in his body. These can easily get you pregnant.

"I'm on my period, so it's safe"
Nope, it's not. Your chances of getting pregnant depend on when you ovulate. However, you do not always, if ever, know for sure when you are ovulating. It is highly possible to ovulate during a period. Your menstrual cycle will probably not be completely regular for the first several years, if ever.

agree with people's lack of knowledge about sex. I know people
who think, if they pray after they have sex they won't get
pregnant.

We called it the "pull and pray"

will i know what is like to think yu are perqnant.. i have only do
1 boy but 4 diffent time.. but just because u love then do have
sex with...
I just learned a few things, There some stuff i need to discuss
with my boyfriend.
i guess i need to read up on more books now dont i

and i am a nursing assistant

"2nd, I like how masturbation is shown as being ok because rape
and adultery are immoral,"

Masturbation is NOT immoral.

It's not an act of unwilled sex, and it's not an act of adultry.

I cannot cheat on my significant other with myself, thus it's not
adultry.
wow well thers a few tings i didnt no lol
wow... i learnt those things in grade 7 or 8 health class.

oh the memories!
"You can know when you ovulate using the cues your body gives you
as taught through the sympto-thermo method, but most people aren't
dedicated enough to learn this. It's scientific, based on body
temperature, cervix placement, and vaginal liquid properties."

1. Even if you learn exactly how to do it, it is nearly impossible
to get 100% right, and still less effective than any birth control
out there.
2. Studies have shown many women ovulate more than once in their
cycle. If a woman ovulates during her period, that can mask the
symptoms so she won't know. Also, if a woman is convinced she has
already ovulated for this cycle, she may stop looking for the
signs.

"2nd, I like how masturbation is shown as being ok because rape
and adultery are immoral, but to many people masturbation is just
as immoral. Flawed logic, don't you think- that is, to encourage a
possibly immoral activity by deeming others as such."

1. Those who feel masturbation is immoral damn well better think
that sex in general is immoral, so it is irrelevant to this post.
good to know, even though i have the sense to know not to ask
those kinds of questions that always turn out to be myths.
thanks for compiling that.

I met a girl who was 18 years old, and pregnant. She and her
boyfriend never used a condom, her excuse being that she thought
if she took a shower and you know, used the shower head to rinse
everytime after they had sex, she wouldn't get pregnant. She did
this for a year, and never got pregnant. Well, now she is. It's
kind of scary just how ignorant teens can be about sex. Great
article.
All this sounds like common sense to me. At least I hope it should
be common sense.
Great article, I wasn't aware that some people believed in these
myths.

Glad this was written. Too many people on this site, even in their
20's are following myths about sex, pregnancy, birth control and
STD's.
All of this is very true, if not just common sense..that's true,
not many teens know about sex..they think they are safe no matter
what...
Okay now I've heard some pretty daft things but this??? What makes
it even more funny (slthough I don't think i'd find it quite so
funny if it were me!!) is that my lil sis believed all this crap-
yeah she had warts, chlamydia and at the ripe old age of 16 a
baby!!! she thought that the contraceptive injection fights STDs
too and the only way to find out u have STDs is if you feel a
burning or you start to look 'mankey' just so you know- yes she is
a natural blond!!! (not tryin to be offensive!!)
This is a great article. Its amazing how little most teenagers
know about sex.
Great article!
