Do you remembers the ki-toting, kamehamehama-ing, teleporting, super-saiyan transforming characters of Dragonball Z? Goku, Trunks, Majin Buu, Piccolo, Frieza and more are back in a new manga-style fighting game, Super Dragonball Z. From Atari and Crafts and Meister (whose team members include former Street Fighter producer Noritaka Funamizu), this game is a true fighter. Battles take place on a specific battle field every time, and there is little plot or story connecting these fights.
The game's different modes are Original, where one
tries to beat progressively more difficult challengers
(best 2 rounds out of 3), Z Survival (similar but your
health never replenishes), Practice (no training in
this game, but you do get to beat any character
without them fighting back!) and of course Versus (self explanatory). The animation is more like the cartoon than previous DBZ games, and manga style exclamations (like Kwaaang) are shown when a character is really hit hard.

Out of about 12 characters you get at the game's
start (18 total), each one has their own moves and fighting style. These are fun to experiment with, and include the fact that Majin Buu prances when he walks towards an opponent and Frieza can teleport. Another fun feature of the game is that one can use the terrain to their character's individual advantage, and walls, columns, and other parts of the scenery are often broken in the course of a fight.
