Incubus
Light Grenades
Incubus is one of those bands that span the musical spectrum. Since their inception in Southern California's San Fernando Valley in 1991, they have released an impressive catalog of albums (and an additional two EP's), ranging from psychedelic and funk to "surf rock". These fifteen year veterans have staked their claim on alternative rock and with the release of their sixth full-length studio album, prove that they will stick around long after the Nickelbacks of the world lose their luster.
Light Grenades opens with "Quicksand", both a lyrical and aural accomplishment that manages to spotlight both Brandon Boyd's vocals and Chris Kilmore's mastery of subtle sound. "Quicksand" turns into "A Kiss to Send Us Off", a throw-back to their earlier offerings. An almost minute long introduction turns into an intensely vocally layered explosion from Boyd, who when he's harmoniously paired off with himself, is at his very best.
