Birth control made easier

There are countless methods of contraception available to teens today. When most people think about birth control, they think of the pill. However, there are many other methods out there that do not require being thought about every single day. NuvaRing is one of them.

What is NuvaRing?
NuvaRing is a small, latex, flexible ring that is inserted into the vagina once per month. It is about two inches in diameter and releases hormones to prevent pregnancy. It is placed into the vagina for about 21 days, removed to allow a period, and then a new one is put in.

How does it work?
NuvaRing contains the same hormones as a contraceptive pill that prevents the ovaries from producing mature eggs. It rests in the walls of the vagina, which absorb the hormones into the bloodstream. It is 99% effective when used correctly.

my sister in law got pregnant while on the ring. its shit.
I have been on the NuvaRing for two years, I personally love it.
It is convenient, and once you get it in right, it doesnt usually
move. Mine has fallen out maybe once... and that was after
intercoarse, not just on its own. I think its personal
preference. I started taking the Ring because i didnt want my
mother to know about it. I know that sounds bad, but hey, I wanted
to be safe. I feel a little moody around my ovulation time, or
atleast thats what time i think it is. I get PMS and I have a 3-7
day period. But, im a girl, i have a vagina, so i am going to
have periods. thats just how i feel about it. Well hope i may
have helped someone...?
I luv nuvaring. i think that its a great meathod of birth control.
i have been usin it 4 about a year.i havent had any bad
sideeffects. the only difference is that i get shorter periods so
im less bitchy :). I kno that some people do get sideeffects so i
kno it may not b as good to every1, but hey if u try it n it
doesnt work out then hey u kno everythin iz not 4 everybody.
sideeffects r different 4 every1. But do keep reaserchin about
birth control(make sure to have reaserch from different sources b4
u pick 1). just 1 thing i do suggest every1 to do: take a break
from ne type of birthcontrol b/c of the different things that it
does 2 ur body, i have taken a break just so my hormone levels go
bak 2 normal but im startin again in a couple of weeks. just
remember if u do take a break u MUST use condoms or lay off sex 4
a while ;) Well now that i realized i have written an essay LMAO
lemme end this off by sayin b safe and dont knock it till u try
it?
Im good wit the pill. Just have to remember to take it,thas all
hmm.. lets see weighing out my options here... Hmm... I don't know
I'm not fond of the whole getting tired, weight gain.. the loss
perfectly fine but gain...and feeling like I'm always on my period
without being on it... hmm tough choice... No sex for Jay and I
don't have to remember anything without some funky side-effects.
Bad news for him, good news for me!
I love it. No remembering, I don't feel it and you can take it out
during sex if you want.
Nuvaring causes really severe & painful Urinary Tract infections.
Did you know that when women take the pill or take estrogen
suppliments for menopause that is causes there to be an excess
amount of estrogen in their urine. This estrogen goes from the
toilet into our water, and then into the organisms in the water,
and is causes male fish to be born with ovaries... Crazy what we
do to our environment without knowing...
my sister used it and it got stuck in her and her husband had to
like, dig around to get it out.

that's enough reason for me to never use that
I like my pill. Well, I did for several years, but I've been on it
for 4 years now and I think it's time for a change. For one thing,
it isn't making my periods regular anymore.

So in February I'm having something called a Mirena IUS put in.
It's sort of like an IUD, but instead of making your periods
heavier, it apparently stops them totally. Bitchin'. I hate hate
hate my periods, since I have a recurring kidney infection and for
the 10 days or so a month that I bleed, I have agonizing pain in
my kidneys, to the point where I can't be vertical, and have to
spend most of my time lying down.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this Mirena thing, although
apparently you do spot a bit for the first few months after it's
put in. And naturally, I'm a little concerned about sex - I know
the doctors always say your partner can't feel anything...but I'm
still going to be apprehensive the first time, all the same.

But yes. It's mostly a good thing. And my dear friend Curt, who
likes to celebrate every little thing, will probably decide that
new birth control is an excuse for a nice dinner out and
champagne. ;-)

OK, got a little off the topic there, but never mind.
Roswelliscool: actually Paragard doesn't use any hormones, and
it's an excellent BC method for people who want to be hormone free
:-) But because it's an IUD it's much more costly upfront - - but
the cost works itself out over time.

And as for the last responder - - people aren't 'bitching' they're
stating their experience, people learn through experience.

Most doctors 'push' Depo or NuvaRing because it's supposed to
provide better protection with less 'opps I forgot' - - so a lot
of girls end up with it thinking it's going to be the easiest
thing in the world.

We're just simply stating our personal experiences for someone who
might be interested, so they realize the problems they might
experience aren't individual.
I really don't know what everyone is bitching about...all girls
find their own "personal" comfort level with the birth control
they choose. You don't have to like the NuvaRing...just don't
fu<king use it. It's that simple. God.
In my opinion, IUD is better than the ring. Don't have to worry
about changing it monthly. But of course, it's different strokes
for different folks.
bumpsetspike88 - I was NOT making it out to be a "miracle shot."
I was simple expressing how it was for me and that it is another
avenue worth researching. Obviously it works different for
everyone, and there are pros and cons to EVERY type of birth
control. The Depo shot is one of the VERY FEW that you dont have
to worry about blod clots, which can actually kill you, which is a
lot of the reason the patch is getting pulled off the market.
Also, I dont know where you are gettig this 3 month long PMS kick,
cuz I don't PMS at all...so maybe it just did that to you???
Obviously everyone should research things before putting them in
their body...You're stupid if you dont. Also, I didn't gain a
single pound from it, so again, maybe that's a side effect some
have experienced, but not all. Maybe you shouldnt shoot people
down so quickly because you had a bad experience????
juuchan18 - true, but there are side effects with ALL birth
control. I haven't had a single incident of PMS since I started
the Depo injection and I take daily vitamins so the Dr. told me I
dont need to worry about bone deterioration...Thanks for the heads
up though :)
"go2hellbitch," im on nuvaring and this article is the extreme
short version it says not to use the diaphram or the female condom
BECAUSE YOU HAVE A RING IN YOUR VAGINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also you can take the ring out for up to 3 hours and if you leave
it out longer then would need "back-up contraceptives" lol they
didnt say not to quit contraceptives completely!!!!! DUH!!!!
i was on the ring for 4 months and hated everyday. the ring would
fall out sometimes and it really killed my sex drive and it dried
out my vagina( as weird as that sounds)
some women love it , but it just wasnt right for me... so i got
the Mirena IUD instead. it lasts for 3-5 years. i love it! im back
to normal and feeling good!
i was on the shot but after a lot of research and talkin to my
doctor i decided its not the birth control for me. its not the
miracle shot that broksbabyforeve is makin it to be. first of all
ur not supposed to be on the shot for over 1 year or else it can
stop ur periods forever, it depletes calcium from ur bones, it can
make it like ur pmsin for 3 months basically (cravings, moody,
etc)and a lot of women have gained weight because of this, also
there is a group of women suing the company that makes it claiming
that it has messed up their reproductive system. none of this was
told to me when i decided to go on the shot so whatever birth
control u choose be sure to research it thoroughly and decide
which choice is best for u
My problem w/ any birth control is that they all involve hormones,
and no matter what I get terribly depressed or anxious. A shot, a
ring, the pill...anything. So I'm on anti-depressants now to
counter that (although I'm sure I would have needed them anyways,
but then BC pills just made it worse).

I've never had a problem w/ taking my pill every day...I've been
on it for a year and I've never missed a day. And I don't think
the idea of inserting and fishing out a ring from my vagina sounds
very appetizing, especially to do once every month.
broksbabyforeve - though you don't suffer from side effects there
are TONS of side effects you COULD experience from Depo including
worsened PMS, not to mention bone deterioration.

Nuva ring is just like all other hormone birth control, it can
make things a lot better or a lot worse, you just have to shop
around for one that suits you.
If you want a rockin birth control...the one I am on is called a
Depo shot. Your doctor will know what it is. It's a shot that
you get once every three months, so if you can tolerate a shot, it
is awesome...Bonus point...NO PERIODS or any of their nasty side
effects like PMS or bloating or cramps...so give it a try..I love
it. I didn't have any side effects from it at all...
everyone I know that's been on it has gotten WICKED sick from
it...Not a good idea!!!
I've used Nuvaring since May, and I hate it. It slips out, it
itches whenever it starts to come out, and it's killed my sex
drive. The whole "remember birth control only once a month" sounds
nice, but the side effects outweigh the so-called convenience.
I used NuvaRing for a month, and I don't know if I put it in
wrong, but it felt uncomfortable and would slip out all the time.
It takes a little getting used to, especially because my period
seemed much heavier and lasted days longer than usual. It's worth
taking the pill, feeling hormone-crazed, than using the ring
again.
It made vomit about every day to every other day, and I had a
'period' for about two months straight. Shortly after stopping the
ring they discovered the hormone levels in it agitated my fibroids
which is part of the reason it was so miserable.

And to top it off, my husband (fiance at the time), could feel it
and it used to slip out all the freaking out. . .

It was seriously miserable, I wish it had worked, mostly everyone
else I talk to, with a few exceptions, has had a great experience.
maybe they meant just things like the female condom and the
diaphragm...like just other things youd put in the
vagina...wellyou cant take it with the pill either. idk
This article states that

"It is also cautioned not to use the ring with any other forms of
contraceptives such as the female condom or a diaphragm"

That's incorrect. That implies that with the nuvaring you're not
allowed to use ANY kind of back-up method to prevent STDs, and
that's not true. Although you shouldn't use a diaphragm, you CAN
use a male condom. (Male condoms and female condoms differ in that
the male condom is placed directly on the penis, the female condom
is placed directly in the vagina)
I suck at remembering the pill, and I'm really considering the
pill. go me! susan, what happened when you were on it?
Only BC that's worked for me. Any other kind made me vomit...
Right now I'm pregnant and due in April. After I recover from
having my little one I that I will probably choose the ring to
help from getting pregnant quickly again lol I've discussed it
with my doctor, and it seems the best way to go for me, especially
since you don't have to remember it every day and it quite low
costing.
I thought the nuva ring would be a blessing beacuse I have a
terrible memory, but unfortunately that was probably the worst
experience for BC that I've ever had.

However I do know tons of girls on KB who've had an excellent
experience with it, so it really does vary person to person I
suppose.
