Politics as usual with this Missouri-based quartet.
This New York-based quartet is prepared to rock in '09.
The hard rock quintet gets sinister on "Cinco Diablo."
Sticking to what they do best on their fifth album.

Wincing the Night Away

Indie-pop, Garden State, Natalie Portman, blah blah blah--The Shins are so over-analyzed and overrated that they're practically underrated all over again. Critics either scream in ecstasy or roll their eyes in disgust whenever the Portland, Oregon natives release an album.

"They're too twee, precious, poppy, playful blah blah blah."

Chastising The Shins for sounding too "playful" is like hating on the Dresden Dolls for sounding too "theatric," or knocking Lightning Bolt for their "abrasive" sound. If you like your coffee black, you like it black; nothing could or should change your mind. I like my Shins playful, and Wincing the Night Away gives me my fix while exploring new territory ever so slightly.

i love this cd. im guilty of downloading it off the internet.. but
of course ill buy it when it comes out too.

sea legs is my favorite song, though turn on me and split needles
are close seconds. :)
I heard the album is getting good reviews.

I love the video for Phantom Limb
simply amazing..that is all
It's...OK. I feel like I should like it much more than I do...but
I just don't.

Chutes Too Narrow is MUCH better, but this is still good.

I love this album SO MUCH! My favorite tracks keep changing, but
I've been stuck on Phantom Limb for months. Red Rabbits is sooo
beautiful.
Honestly, I've had the CD for over a month and I haven't gotten
sick of it in the slightest. "Australia" and "Sleeping Lessons"
are brilliant and all the songs are addictive.

i haven't heard any of the songs on this new cd but i do love
their other cds! such a great band!
