"Split world" is the literal meaning of schizophrenia. People with this disorder have difficulties making decisions, handling heir emotions, and determining what is reality. Unlike Multiple Personality disorder, which it is commonly confused with, Schizophrenia is a psychosis. In fact doctors now consider schizophrenia a syndrome as opposed to a disease.
Schizophrenia affects more than 2 million Americans yearly. It usually appears in the late teens or early twenties and affects more males than females. Men are more likely to commit suicide when the syndrome becomes active because they tend to use guns or nooses (more violent/definite means),while women often veer towards pills or wrist slicing.
Recently, scientists have found what seems to be a link between schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. Schizophrenics have an above average level of dopamine present in their brains, whereas people with Parkinson's disease have a below average amount of the chemical. Schizophrenics also experience abnormalities in the fluid-filled cavities of the brain called verticals. These cavities are usually larger than that of a "normal" person.

graduate, I found the article to be perhaps the best and most
informative article on any mental health topic I have read on kiwi
in the last six years. The author deserves to be commended for an
extremely well rounded article. Great Sources too! For future
reference though, the intermittant use of the term "schizophrenic"
rather than "people suffering from schizophrenia" is not
politically correct (it labels people and defines them by their
disorder alone) and the later should be used exclusively. Awsome
job though!
