American Idol update: Antonella Barba's "suggestive" pics are causing a whirlwind of controversy--what do you think? Should she get booted or should the judges let her voice be heard? Let us know by posting a comment on the right ---->

Read our preview of American Idol Season 6 below:

With the sixth season of American Idol approaching faster than Paula Abdul's dire need for rehab, Americans everywhere are proudly preparing to indulge in their guiltiest of TV pleasures. Although many critics fear that the allure of American Idol is dwindling after such a long run, last season's ratings were higher than ever, and excitement concerning the groundbreaking reality show continues to grow.

Last year's season finale was one of the biggest TV events of the year with over 36 million viewers recorded by Neilsen Media Research. It seems there's nothing that the producers of Idol won't do to keep the audience coming back for more. Before Taylor Hick's drawn-out victory last season, Idol fans witnessed an unprecedented amount of bells and whistles including, a Clay Aiken impersonator who came close to tears when he was surprised by the real thing, some cat fights between the show's infamous creator Simon Cowell, and fallen-pop-goddess-turned-train-wreck Paula Abdul and an impressive surprise visit from Prince. This season, rumor has it that Paul McCartney (the artist formerly known as "Beatle") will show up and tweens across America will wonder if the elderly British man is Simon's father.

I don't like the way the show has come about. The Judges arn't fair
to the blacks. They try to critalsize people. That really do have
talent.American Idols.Isn't what it use to be.
haaa you know when they previewed for birmingham next week it
cracked me up. some people actually think southerners are really
like that. it's pretty sad. itd b nice if someone from my state of
SC would win haaa. But i really like that opera singer from new
york. that girl's got talent! can't wait till birmingham, but i
really dont want another winner from there =/
yeah thats right they r comming to the big apple NEWYORK
I can understand why Paula drinkds (allegedly) Shes getting paid
to search the country, and watch people make idiots of themselves.
So does she leave it or not... (She has enough money, she has no
kids to support) I'd just retire from the spotlight and have as
many martinis as I want, at any time of the day.
Its not what it used to be.... people just go on there to get
their 15 minutes of fame. It doesnt take a whole Convention
center to find 7 talented people...
omg this show needs to go away!!!
HAHA the Seattle show was absolutely tragic!! Did anyone else
think that "Big Red" looked like a serial killer???
Can't wait until Tennesse. They always got good singers there =].
woot woot.
We had a guy who tried out for American Idol a few years ago in
Raleigh this morning on my radio station. He said that the
contestants don't see simon, paula and randy till the third round
or so. But what they do is they find the worst of the worst (along
with the best) and tell them they are American Idol worthy. And
through these few rounds they build they're confidence, so when
they git in front of simon and them they are all expecting to get
through. All because they were lied to before. And so yes, they
look like complete fools when goin on the show. So yeah, it is set
up. And I found it kind of sad.
Some of them were definitely rehearsed. At the end, when the
contestants were singing the Pussycat Dolls song, they were
staring right into the camera.

And that girl with the gross blonde hair/wig/whatever needed a bra
ASAP.
I have watched American Idol ever since season 1, but it seemed
very rehearsed this so far this year. With so few good singers
aired, it got a little annoying and repetitive. I am ready when
they are in Hollywood and picking the finale 12. That's when it
gets interesting!
i do have to admit that seatle had some pretty ugly people on
there. That one kid with the big eyes that simon said looked like
a person who just came out of the jungle wearing the mask,
reminded me of a pekinesse dog. LOL
I agree... some of them really looked like they were planned...
like the computer geek guy that sang "unchained melody"? It seemed
like it was planned.. or something.
Some of them were SO horrible, that I am hoping it was for a
joke... yikes.
And at the end of the first day, they were all singing "Don't cha"
by Pussycat Dolls? Sounds fishy to me...

But I have to say, I still love watching it... it's pure
entertainment. lol.
I really enjoyed this gritty, no-nonsense summary of the abysmal
state of American pop culture. I found Carolyn B.'s brutally
honest commentary to be a refreshing take on the candied-over
nonsense we are force-fed as "blissfully ignorant" youths.
Clearly Carolyn has a steady grasp on reality and can see through
the translucent lies that so many of my peers see as opaque
truths. I applaud Carolyn B.'s astute observations, and look
forward to her future editorials.
The one 'girl' with her mom from tonight's show - - i seriously
thought 'she' was a man with a wig, but you know that was stagged,
even she seemed uncomfortable.
yeah paula was geen with envy cuz jewel was on the show she's
probably just jealous and is used to being the only female judge.
it kinda made me sad. i tend to favor male singers more, and last
night only 2 made it through. I only liked the navy guy erally.
Hopefully tonight will be a guys night
I cant believe that show was 2 hours last night...waaay too many
commercials in my opinion. And I think a lot of the cheesy things
they did they would never have tried in the 1st or 2nd season
because they would have lost too many viewers. The sad thing...I'm
going to watch it again tonight...very sad indeed.
Of course some of them are rehearsed.

I hate, hate, hate American Idol
is it just me, or did Paula seem jealous, or intimidated by
Jewel?

oh and, i think last night, was the meanest Randy's ever been lol.
it was funny though.
they sent 2 guys at least, one was the navy man and the other was
the 16 year old boy who's parents didn't come with him.
I can't believe that the contestants sent only girls to Hollywood
last night. I think that is odd.
I get the feeling that some of the "bad" contestants from the
premiere were totally rehearsed WITH American Idol, including
Simon, Randy and Paula.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

It all seemed very scripted...
Cheap jabs and sarcasm don't make for good writing.
PAULA IS INSANE.
