I love dancing.
If I could hang up my pencil, lace up a fresh pair of dancing shoes and tango the night away I would do so in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I lack the grace, determination and talent to pull of such a feat. Coincidentally, director Sylvain White has the same lack of grace, determination and talent to steer Stomp the Yard away from becoming an urban line-dance in hell.
DJ (Columbus Short) is the protagonist in Stomp the Yard, and his story is anything but typical. DJ is a egocentric hotshot whose fate changes after a rival gang of dancers take one step too far in a challenge that ends in bloodshed (?).
Following the violent, dance-related death of his brother (??) DJ is forced to leave his L.A. stomping grounds to attend the fictional "Truth University" (???), an all-black college that his mom sends him to in hopes that he will be safe and sound from the urban dance catastrophes of his past (????).

kids rising above the struggles of everyday life through hip hop
