Norah Jones
Not Too Late
When you first turn on Norah Jones' new album, Not Too Late, you may feel the urge to press buttons or stand awkwardly with your arms by your side. You mustn't, however, be fooled by the "Muzak" quality of the album; chances are, you're not in an elevator.
Truth be told, there is nothing offensive or bad about Not Too Late. Norah Jones' familiar gentle voice comes close to entertaining in her soothing third collection of songs. Clearly a talented young woman, Norah takes a good stab at making something worth listening to--but alas, fails to truly captivate.
The passages of calming ambience and folksy rhythms throughout Not Too Late are reminiscent of the female vocals on a Damien Rice track. Sadly, Jones' voice lacks the depth and emotion of Lisa Hannigan's, and her singing ends up sounding like dull back-up to the piano tracks that are incapable of holding their own.
