The 2007 Oscar nominees are a welcome mix of indie darlings and mainstream heavy-hitters, both of which are bound to give the Academy something to think about as they place their votes in the coming weeks. This year has proven to be quite a mix-up, with smart, dark comedies (Little Miss Sunshine) balancing out intense dramas (The Departed, Babel) and the return of the musical (Dreamgirls) reminding us that Oscar worthy movies can be fun sometimes!
This year's pool of potential winners is rather shallow, but that's not to say there isn't a good amount of surprise appearances and serial win-less nominees. Will it finally be Martin Scorsese's year?
