Ever since R. Kelly became "ironic" (or stopped caring) and Nelly sing-songed his way to the top of the charts modern R&B has become something of a danger zone, a place where copious amounts of testosterone-fueled hooligans dump their "trackz" in the proverbial landfill. On the other side of the spectrum, "feel-good" artists like Musiq and John Legend are sometimes a bit too earnest and one-dimensional to be completely believable. R&B desperately needs an artist (or group) who can straddle the line between taboo and truth in the way Ohio Players, Lou Rawls and Rick James used to.
D'Angelo, where are you? COME BACK!
Until D'Angelo emerges from the depths of non-work we have Lloyd, R&B's sole savior, to save the entire genre, artists and listeners alike, from certain doom!
Just kidding. Lloyd is an R&B by-product of his ignorant and randy contemporaries, rolling down the conveyor belt with twice-baked beats and "shawty luv" lyrics. Do we really need another perv to swoon the 'tween demographic?
