Modest MouseWe Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

With the release of We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, Seattle's Modest Mouse can lay claim to having one of the most peculiar careers in the history of Indie-rock. Starting off as a scrappy bunch of Pixies' emulators they slowly mutated into their own self-serving muse. Albums like The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antarctica (still to this day their crowning achievement) proved that MM was more than worthy of critical praise; their form of (anti) pop-rock was jarring and jagged and wonderfully so. Isaac Brock's cacophonous voice wriggled and wrestled with lyrics like a squawking seer, painfully direct yet determinedly abstract. Sony liked what they heard.
Then came the surprising commercial success of Good News for People Who Love Bad News.
Then came Kidz Bop covering "Float On," MTV "Band To Watch" hype and VH1 dad-rock accolades.
