We're Just As Good As The Men

Being a female, I hate the labels that society has placed upon me. The expectations I'm suppose to meet aren't really expectations at all; they're more like a mold I'm expected to fit because I was born a woman--a quiet, simple minded, child bearing house wife. I'm expected to never speak my mind or live up to the potential everyone knows I have. I'm suppose to give birth to new life and live within the confinements of four walls, a roof, and a wood floor.

Where would our society be now without those few women who have spoken out against the word of "man"? No women in our country's history has ever been remembered for being great by staying home and keeping to herself. One of the greatest quotes about women was spoken by Colonel Mary Hallaren in 1942: "You don't have to be six foot tall and a male to have a brain and know how to use it."

True, many of the greatest achievements of humankind have been by men, such as Gregor Mendel and George Washington. However, throughout history, there have also been many great accomplishments by women as well. For example, all those women in history who went to war under the guise of a man to help the country they loved. Many of these women built the basis of what a woman can do in the military. It is true that they're still things in the military that women cannot do, but there was a time when women were thought to be so useless that they were completely denied the opportunity to put on a uniform and fight for something that meant so much to ourselves, our families, and our friends.

So there has never been a female president, but there has never been an African American president either, neither male nor female. Maybe it's not that females can not do something, it's that white males feel inferior when a woman proves she can compete in today's "working" society. However, there is no evidential proof for either. Theory after theory has been thrown into the mix, but no main reason has ever emerged.
