Board Games

Blast from the Past

In a generation where we're attached to our cell phones, computers and gaming consoles, sometimes it's nice to tuck technology away and just enjoy some good old fashion board games.

You're never too old for board games, and there are so many out there that can teach you a thing or two about life!

Here are five classics--they always promise a good time when money is tight and you're looking for something to do! Sometimes it's nice to take a step backwards from technology to go back to your childhood rainy afternoons!

MONOPOLY®

MONOPOLY® is one of my favorite games to play when I'm strapped for cash. It has it all, spending money that's not yours to purchase property and collect rent from. This is actually a major building block for accounting and economics high school classes across the U.S. It teaches you the value of money and property, balancing debits and credits and how to be the best bargainer you can be when swapping properties with friends in debt!

MONOPOLY® has been around since 1935 and has had dozens of different versions. Whether you're into pop culture, sport's teams, cities, university style or "specialty"-opolies, there is an edition for you, as there are over 60 versions--so don't think you're too old. There are a few "adult" versions out there!

Some fun MONOPOLY® facts:

  • Every game comes with $15,140, but after a year of playing, most people only have a 1/3 of it!

  • A $25,000 set includes gold and silver houses and hotels, and was created by Alfred Dunhill

  • Illinois Avenue, "GO" and B&O Railroad are the three most popular properties to land on.

  • Over 5 billion green houses have been "constructed" since 1935.

Great article! I miss playing Monopoly. I should get a new set
just because. It might come in handy one day.
I Love this game its my favorite one of all time just wish
everyone else liked playing it as much as me.
I've played all of those games, except for Pay Day. Monopoly is my
favorite out of all of those. I used to play monopoly with my
siblings, and we didn't really abided by the monopoly rules. I
remembered when I had enough money to buy houses but they were all
gone so I used the leftover hotels as houses.
for writing this article. I am an avid board game player. I have
over 10. And I prefer them to the dvd scene it style games. it's
nice to bring them back.
I love this article! Board games were the way to go so many years
ago. I still love playing them, unfortunately no one else seems to
want to!
I love this article :)
