Skin Care

Home Remedies

As a teenager with no money and a lot of time on my hands, I tried a number of at-home skin treatments that yielded less than salon quality results. I've used mushed banana on my nose, over-steamed my face with boiling water, used my mother's imported olive oil and table salt for a pedicure and attempted to clear my skin with a number of harsh and painful abrassives. I've learned that not all condiments double as beauty products no matter how bad you want them to. There are, however, some tried and true tricks that actually do work. I've compiled a list of the best ones that will help your skin get into shape for the new sunny season, without shedding major money at the drug store.

that's really helpful. I'm definetly gonna try some of those.
actually.. let me go get a grape! lol. I just which it had a
section on what make up is best. A lot of it is gunky and gross.
I'm looking into bare minerals. But if anyone has ideas of whats
good there should be an article. Thanks!
"Also remember to always put moisturizer on before and foundation.
100% better."

100% agreed. I know many people who are oily/combination oily like
I am, and they think they don't need to moisturize because they
have oily skin. Truth is, I learned from my sister who used to
sell Mary Kay, and from my online Avon Beauty Adviser training,
that skin gets oily because it hasn't been moisturized, so the
skin reacts like "Oh, no, no moisture, must make more oil!!" and
it goes into overdrive, making loads of unneeded oil, which ends
up making our pores crankier when they get clogged with so much
oil.

I have found for myself that Avon's True Pore-Fection products
work for me. The lotion has enough moisture to keep my face from
going crazy with oils, yet, it has enough of the toner acids to
keep the oil production down in check.

Another thing, for those of you concerned about getting clogged
pores. Want to know the secret jargon beauty companies use that
means "Won't Clog Pores?" Look on the back of the bottle of
whatever you're eyeballing. If it's a big enough bottle to print
it on, you might see it. About where you see where they list
things like "hypoallergenic," on the ones that claim they won't
clog your pores, they'll list a term called "Non-Comedogenic."
That means it shouldn't clog your pores. Not all products list
that that might mean it, but if you see that, that's what it
means.

Also, applying moisturizer before foundation is also a good idea,
because not only does it act as a barrier from keeping the makeup
from getting stuck in your pores, but it also helps the foundation
and makeup go on smoother.
thank you so much for your help! My skin is looking better
already! My boyfriend even noticed, he doesnt make a bitter face
when he kisses my cheeks anymore! just a note though, i found
that if you mix all the things you talked about in this article in
a big bowl, its a really delicious snax! Even the lush creams
taste good. I cant stop eating it, i think Carolyn needs to
write an article about appetite control now lol. Yumz!
totally I know what you meam. People with oily skin forget to
moisturize and that just makes it all worse. Again to hawking the
Lush (I should ask them to give me free products here!!!) but they
have an oil free moisturizer called Enzymyte that is made from
fruit juices and it moisturizes while sucking up all the bad oil.
Also remember to always put moisturizer on before and foundation.
100% better.
Oh, and also when my skin gets more dry, it breaks out more. You
know, more oil produced equaling in more break-outs.
I needed this article. I think I'm giving up on commercial
products. I've tried quite a few things like Proactiv, Clean and
Clear, the Neutrogena bar, Noxzema, some I can't remember. I've
found they're too strong. All this time what I thought was a
break-out on my face, is really a rash. That was from Clean &
Clear. I found my skin was a lot less bumpy and irritated looking
when I was using nothing, but it was more shiny, so I get
disappointed about that :\ But, I'll look into some of this stuff.
Hopefully, it'll work.
I'll have to try some of these things... I hate blackheads! I pull
them out with Biore pore strips but they always come back!

Lush sounds cool - I'll have to check them out.
Well salicylic acid products are always good on the spot treatmets
sold over the counter...but also why dont you try going to a
dermatologist to get a specific recommendation for your skin type.
Otherwise, I really do agree I love Lush's tea tree oil toner in
combo with the chamomile or coal clenser...but really ditch the
oily makeup only use oil free!!! also just MAKE SURE TO WASH at
least twice a day and really get everything out( if your white
towl or a tissue reveals makeup still on it its not good enough.)
washing your hair more often helps too but lots of the time its
just a matter of genetics and you should ask a professional if it
gets really bad!
i discovered lush when i lived in dallas. i live for that store.

i absolutely love their tree tea oil water. it cleared my face
without turning it red.

the only gripe that i have about it is that some of their
sensative stuff still has perfume in it. well worth the money
though!

i have got many pimples what do i do
