I have read many great books from many different genres, but never "Chick lit," a genre of books solely marketed towards young, single women. To tell you the truth I never knew it even existed. Then one day I came across Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, which just so happens to fall into that genre. And now, I absolutely love it!
This 312-page book is about a twenty-four year old shopaholic named Rebecca Bloomwood (referred to as "Becky" throughout the book). Becky works as a financial journalist in London, and her obsession with shopping has led Visa and Endwich Bank to send out letters daily in regards to her outstanding bills.
First, Becky avoids the letters from both companies and continues shopping with her credit cards. After getting more letters, she attempts to buy time, sending a check for the correct amount...but without signing her signature. When the bank sends the check back to her, she buys even more time by signing another check--this time with the wrong cash amount. After these attempts fail Becky tries to bribe the bank with a free subscription to the financial magazine she works for; they don't accept her offer (who would?). Her account is then frozen and one of her credit cards is confiscated.

t
cute/funny. The first one was my favourite. Also, her other book
"Can You Keep a Secret?" is a fun read as well. I'd definitely
recommend this author if you're looking for some light, fluffy
fare.
