Cooking Mama: Cook Off!Majesco (Wii)

More than anything else, Nintendo consoles harbor the largest number of games dealing with menial tasks that somehow translate into fine gaming. From Chibi Robo's sweep-up to Animal Crossing's upkeep, the Big N is the sole location for the bizarrely childish. Wii, much like the Nintendo DS before it, is shaping up to be a system where left-field programmers can let their imaginations go wild with varying levels of success.
Series like WarioWare upped the ante for "task games" everywhere, pushing the boundaries of what gaming could and should be--imaginative and fun. Cooking Mama: Cook Off! follows the path laid down by Wario Ware but with all of its focus on the most important task of them all: Cooking!
The original Cooking Mama was released for the DS to wide acclaim; it's novel gameplay went over well with gamers tired of the landfill of shoot-em-ups. The main criticism with this all-new Wii version is that it's not all-new. It's essentially the same DS game with a slight facelift and new control scheme. But for the countless amounts of people that didn't try out Cooking Mama the first time around, this Wii version acts as an updated and more intuitive first-entry into novelty cooking.
