Nickelodeon

Back in the Day

There's something missing from the newer generations of cartoons kids have available to them. They either lack creativity or originality, or are just a little too crude for children. In fact, it's doubtful you could pay many twenty-year-olds to sit and watch an hour of the cartoons on the new Nickelodeon.

In fact, some people want old school Nick shows back so badly, they've started a petition to bring back shows that were cancelled years ago. To see some of the thousands of signatures on this list and possibly add one of your own, visit this link.

What is it about the old shows that have many of the "around twenty" age longing for what once was? What makes them worthy of talk after all this time?

Some of the earlier shows referred to as "Nicktoons" you might recall include Doug, Rugrats, and Ren and Stimpy. These shows were first launched together in August of 1991.

Old school nickelodeon rocked there's not doubt about that! i
really miss every show, they are one of my favorite past times...i
really hope they start showing them again :)
I LOVED the show All That and Kenan & Kel. I wish they would at
least bring those two back. I actually ordered the entire Are You
Afraid of the Dark series from Ebay. So, there are some people
that still have these shows and are selling them through DVD's.

Global Guts was also another favorite of mine. As well as Salute
Your Shorts & Wild and Crazy Kids. I think its just nostalgia for
all of us and we want to relive our childhoods again through
Nickelodeon shows!
yes, I miss Salute Your Shorts badly. That was THE BEST
Nickelodeon show EVER.

Also, The Secret World of Alex Mack was awesome too.

Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Figure It Out were good game
shows Nick had.

All That was always a good show too before it went down the
crapper. I loved how the musical guests would come on, and they'd
all be silly, yet appropriate.

But, with those shows, you'd learn things. The newer kids shows
aren't so educational. I wish they were.
Alot of the shows you think are permanently cancelled. They are
still aired on TV you just have to pay for the extra channels.
There only re-runs but still also my mom ordered boomerang because
she used to love and watch the show pink panther. All shows
eventually become cancelled because the cast would probably get
tired of doing the shows forever. Even if us older folks want some
of the old shows back that dosent mean the younger kids do. Thats
there main audience kids want new shows more up to date shows,
that have tecknology and things of that nature in them. If they
brought back old shows they would just be reruns and they would
have to cancell out some of the newer shows. I miss the old shows
but i would never ask for them back because there are special
channels just for the old shows and i dont watch that much tv
anyway lolz
Are you Afraid of the Dark=best show ever. Besides Rocko's Modern
Life.
Its not just Nickelodeon. There aren't any decent shows on for
kids anywhere. You used to be able to turn on CBS and NBS and all
those ones and have at least a good couple of hours of afternoon
cartoons. Now you're lucky to get anything. It's all news and
talk shows. I miss the old shows and cartoons.
I really only watch Nickelodeon now because I like Drake and Josh,
and it kinda reminds me of Kenan and Kel. but as far as the shows
now on NICK, they suck. Sorry, but that's what I think. Are You
Afraid of The Dark, Clarissa Explains It All, Salute Your Shorts,
Hey Dude, Ren and Stimpy.....man I miss those shows!
They should bring back the old shows. The old shows are much more
entertaining than the ones that are being played now. But a few of
the shows that are currently on Nickelodean, like Zoey 101 and
Drake and Josh, are just as good as the old ones, at least that's
what I think. They brought back the old shows like Growing Pains,
which used to be on the Disney channel, and Full House, which used
to be on UPN.
The shows today lack a decent message to send to kids. There's
nothing on TV for kids that is worth talking about. They need to
hire more people that have a better grasp on what good wholesome
entertainment is. The stuff from the 90's is mildly crude compared
to what's on TV today.

Also, there is nothing quotable in kid's cartoons today. I have no
desire to turn on Nickelodeon at all anymore, it used to be what I
watched every day, and it's not just because I got older, but the
quality of programming began to deteriorate.

Nickelodeon, please... I implore you... hire some decent writers.
It feels like forever since i seen those shows.. me and my brother
were just talking bout how we use to watch all these 90's shows
mainly on nick but we would watch other shows but we would watch
doug, all that, kenan and kal, clarrisa explains it all, we watch
them all i think.. I think they should bring them back because
they are a lot better then what these kids watch today..
Also the original All That and Kenan and Kel.
I miss all of these shows. I loved Are You Afraid of the Dark?. I
also loved Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Allen Strange, The Secret
World of Alex Mack, and so many, many more. I would love to see
all of these shows again.
All of the shows from the early 1990s would be better for kids
today because they taught life lessons. You didn't get something
brainless coming out of the television everyday. The shows were
also inspiring in some ways. When I watched salute your shorts it
made me want to go to camp during the summer and even though camp
was different from what I saw on the TV it was still fun and I may
have never known that. I mean so many kids today are almost
dragged to camp because they don't want to leave their video games
or cell phones behind.
I miss them all! They should have a Nicktoons channel on cable or
something!
I miss those <333 I was never too big of a fan of Ren and Stimpy
though. I really wish Nick played repeats of those shows. Maybe at
least like a weekend once a month where they'll play nothing but
classic Nick because the channel basically sucks now.
i bought the entire series of are you afraid of the dark on dvd
online and my roommate and i would stay up for hours watching it
reminiscing :] i miss old school nickelodeon
I miss these shows so much!
Today's generation of kids, have a serious lack in good shows to
watch. Our generation had good quality shows, with most them
somewhat educational. Bring back the classics!
I still watch Nickelodeon from time to time. But it's so true that
the shows they have on today aren't at all as good as the ones I
grew up with. I greatly miss those old shows with a passion! Good
times...good times..
::sigh:: those were the days! i miss all those shows, it would be
nice if they could rerun them even on Nick-At-Nite. or they could
even move them to The-N, to add to the lineup of Sabrina the
Teenage Witch and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reruns.

i have to say, tho, i still like some of the cartoons they have on
Nickelodeon today! maybe not as much as some of the shows from the
past (except Jimmy Neutron, that cartoon rocks!)
Actually....Discovery Kids has some pretty good kids shows on
there, I think...like Scout's Safari and Strange Days at Blake
Holsey High, they're very good!
