Hookah Bars

The smoke's no joke

Hookah bars have become a popular trend among teenagers, especially in an urban environment. Along with going to the movies, clubbing, shopping, and attending parties, hookah bars or cafes are a typical Friday night event. Teenagers gather with their friends to go for a fun filled time of what they assume is nontoxic flavored smoking. However, before you get caught up in this crazy hype, appealing as it sounds, you may want to think about the consequences that could alter your life.

The hookah boom has emerged greatly around the nation as well as worldwide. You can find a hookah bar almost anywhere you turn. They are spreading throughout neighborhoods, colleges, as well as local hang out spots. According to The New York Times, currently there are approximately 200 to 300 hookah bars in the U.S and the numbers are only increasing. One can even buy a hookah, also known as a water pipe, for frequent use at home or social gatherings. As the availability of hookahs grows so does the number of smokers, who believe it or not are becoming addicted.

good article but i think it would have helped if you had mentioned
that it is also a cultural tradition for many.
How can it be a popular trend among teenagers if you have to be
18?
I've never heard of this before. But that doesn't surprise me
considering I live in a small town in northern Canada lol.

It is amazing how people will trick themselves into thinking that
something is safe by listening to their peers instead of doing the
research for themselves. IMO, anything that involves tobacco is
bad for you, even if it is supposedly cleaned of the dangerous
chemicals. Which it's obviously not.
bar lol not barn
there's a hookah barn in the town where I might go to college and
I think one in savannah but none in my town... I think teens will
still use them sometimes but thankyou for the information!
I think that this is a decently written article. I think that
teenagers are still going to use them, even if this article is
written by a "peer."

Surprisingly, I've NEVER seen a hookah bar. I guess if I walked
around long enough in Manhattan I would probably find some, but I
don't know of any offhand.
