Glam Up Your Dorm Room

Just about every college student struggles with a limited income, making dorm room living impossibly dull. What many fail to realize is that dorm room drab can be cured without breaking the bank. Here are some suggestions on how to hype of your room without bottoming out your bank account.

Shop at places like Bed Bath and Beyond who have 40% off coupons in the newspaper nearly every week. It's a great way to save money and buy the necessities that'll last you more than just 1 or 2 semesters.

Most dorm rooms have plexi-glass floors which are about as homey as a prison cell. rather than buying a carpet for the whole room, buy one or two small area rugs for beneath your bed when you get up in the morning and one under your desk to keep your feet warm while you study. Many campuses will sell area rugs in the first few days of school at a discounted price for students. Keep your eyes peeled for these bargains and pick one up in a funky color for added oopmh.

Another common complaint about dorm rooms is the generally low light. Unfortunatley,Lamps can be expensive. Try to find a lamp that can clip on to your bed that can easily be moved around. This way you can use it while in bed, but you also have the capability to turn it and have extra light while you're studying at your desk. If you're looking for something a little more stylish, head to your local Ikea for some out of the ordinary and affordable options.

I really liked the layout of my dorm room this past year. However,
I'll be living in the on-campus apartments come fall! Woohoo!
Why does every dorm use that seafoam trim?

Bed Bath and Beyond is really expensive. Wal-mart, TJ Maxx or
Target are cheaper, or you could just decorate like we did in my
dorm by stealing random things from the cafeteria and putting them
on display. I highly recommend grabbing a couch from the lobby,
too.
That dorm room looks big, but I had a big dorm room when I lived
on campus thanks to vaulted ceilings on the third floor. We would
build lofts to make sure there was room.
Yikes, that dorm room is huge compared to mine.
I loved my room, and I did a lot of the stuff the article
suggested, however, a really cheap thing to do with your walls
that gives it a really neat look is tape random things that you
think look cool to it...my wall ended up being a "museum" of my
first year of college, it looked really fun and it's a great way
to show your personality
We have poster sales all the time on campus, but just beware,
don't buy the frames from them. They are way over priced and
break easily... wait until they go on sale at Hobby Lobby or use
the coupon that comes in the newspaper for Micheal's to buy a
sturdier frame for the same price if not cheaper. At my campus,
we arent allowed to put holes in the walls, so the "On command
strips" that are double sided are my best friends.. I go through a
ton of them through out the year.
i like the information you give but that dont go for everyone we
have preppy people who need expensive stuff...just to be
cool,,,Sorry if you are preppy...
Wow, sounds like dorms are different over there than they are here
in Britain. I've never heard of lighting or carpeting being a
problem before. I agree that laundry baskets are essential though,
haha. They have poster sales all the time here, especially at the
start of the semester...it's amazing what you'll find yourself
buying just to cover the bare walls.
Just go to the local thrift store and you can usually get a ton of
stuff there. Smaller lamps are from 3-15 bucks, so are pictures
and posters to hang on the wall....
wonderful article! im going to have a single next semester and
these are some good ideas - except for the tapestries, those are
illegal in most dorms because they are a fire hazard.
