The Amazing Race

Of all your friends and family, who would you choose as your teammate on CBS' reality show The Amazing Race? If you've never seen it before, this show films 2-person teams as they complete tasks all over the world, moving from country to country while - what else - racing against each other for the cash prize awarded to the winners. Each team is given a certain amount of money and is expected to buy transportation, food, lodging, and any other necessities using only that allowance.

There is an assortment of rules and restrictions beyond the basic rules of the game. For example, competitors are not allowed to talk to family members or friends; basically, anyone who's not directly involved with the show is off-limits. Sometimes the crew searches the teams' bags to make sure there are no contraband items, like cell phones and GPS units. Also, competitors are not allowed to smoke while on the show; this sometimes leads to frustration and discomfort for those people, like Ian of Season 3, who gave up smoking just before filming started.
