Despite six years living in Taipei, my opinion of this bustling Southeast-Asian metropolis is not biased. Meeting none of the criteria of a traditional romantic, or vacation destination Taipei has something else to offer, a genuine culture, character and way of life.
With a population upwards of 2.6 million this busy capital city in Taiwan, has a lot to offer.
When I was younger, my view on Taipei was pretty simple. I enjoyed getting animal shaped cakes, Yakult and "Pearl Milk Tea" (which is just tea with chewy tapioca balls that you suck up in a big straw), on the way to the morning markets with my mom. I hated going to the fish and meat section in the morning markets, reeking of dead fish with a ground wet with traces of animal blood. Still, I loved the scooping-for-goldfish games they have at the night market distracting me from the residue of millions of doggy doo left by the millions of stray dogs around the city.

live it!! (and I'm Taiwanese, but I grew up overseas). But have
never thought of it as a "traditional romantic or vacation
destination".
Nice to see an article on Taipei though!
