How do small town folks solve the issue of boredom on weekends? Honestly, our methods aren't much different than those of people who live in cities. Besides the fact that city-slickers have movie theatres and malls to aid their entertainment needs, boredom is a fairly universal problem that requires active resourcefulness to cure.Sure, those of us who live in towns don't have easy access to any Famous Players, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy taking in a show with friends on Friday night! Most townies, after all, do have a local video rental store. Although the film is played on a relatively smaller screen, as viewers, we have the advantage of volume and pausing control. We don't have to worry about disturbing the people next to us or not being able to see past the enormous football player down in front or missing a scene to go to the bathroom. Because of the lack of theatre regulations, we are also open to a wider variety of snacks. Also, the whole experience is generally a lot easier on the pockets.
In truth, whether you rent a movie for the weekend or not, the important thing is spending time with friends. Living in a small town, I know and hang out with pretty much the same people I've been friends with since kindergarten, which is fairly regular for small towns. Once in a while we may make a trip into a city to go shopping or get a fastfood fix. It's not an utter thriller, but it's something new to do together; everything's better when the novelty doesn't have a chance to wear off.
