There are three main music channels on television today: MTV, VH1, and...can you guess the last one? It's Country Music Television (CMT), a cable channel founded in 1983 and owned by MTV Networks. If you're not familiar with CMT (and I wasn't before I wrote this article), or even if you are, keep reading for a look at one of the most popular channels on TV.CMT is that perfect, elusive music network which - surprise! - actually focuses on a genre of music and the lifestyle that accompanies it. In the past few years, CMT's main competitors MTV and VH1 both seem to have forgotten about the music and jumped on the reality show bandwagon. The only time you can see music videos on TV anymore is in the wee hours of the morning - the rest of the day is filled with programs like Viva La Bam, I Love New York, and Next. Now, I'm not going to lie - I love watching these shows when I want to relax after a stressful day. But most of the time, I really do want to see music videos, hear about this summer's concerts, and learn what's going on with my favorite bands; and unfortunately, I just can't do that by watching MTV or VH1.
