While her peers have made a name for themselves by acting out in the media, Mandy Moore has managed to become one of Hollywood's leading ladies, using what seems to be a rarity these days: Talent.Born Amanda Leigh Moore, 23 years ago in Nashua, New Hampshire and raised near Orlando, Florida, the aspiring singer's interest in performing peaked after seeing a Broadway production of Oklahoma. Her maternal grandmother, a former entertainer herself, encouraged her granddaughter to pursue her dream of becoming a future performer.
Moore experienced her first taste in the spotlight when she became the regular national anthem performer at Florida's sporting events, earning her title as "The National Anthem Girl." That title would later become a blessing in disguise.
As a pre-teen she honed her performer skills by participating on both local and school theatrical productions, but hadn't got her big break until a Fed Ex employee presented a tape of 14 year-old Moore to an old friend of his, who happened to be the head of Epic Records. Moore was signed immediately, and the rest is pop history.
