Quick critique: If you're going to name your album Ain't Nothin' Like Me, you shouldn't start the disc off with a song that samples a sample. "Get To Know Me" features Nas, which makes sense considering that the song's beat is directly lifted from the Nas' track "You're Da Man" from 2001's Stillmatic, which in turn is an interpolation of David Holmes "Sugar Man."

Samples of samples has been done to death--Ashanti's "Unfoolish" ripping B.I.G.'s "One More Chance," which ripped Debarge's "Stay With Me" being an embarrassing example--and it's the exact opposite of "ain't nothin' like me."

Moving on.

Ain't Nothin' Like Me is R&B heavyweight Joe's first album in four years, and he sounds as comfortable in today's R&B climate as he did when he was one of the pioneers of the R&B/Rap fusion that birthed Akon. "I'm With Her" is a slow shuffle, littered with handclaps and pretty-boy bravado, where "Let's Just Do It" (featuring an alphabet-addicted Fabolous) reinstates the future-funk that The Neptunes have all but abandoned.

As with most recent R&B releases, Ain't Nothin' Like Me runs too long, with too many lulls between the heavy hitters like the terrific single "If I Was Your Man." The tail-end of the album sags in comparison to the star-studded first two-thirds, and it doesn't help matters that Joe re-samples yet another hip-hop classic in "Just Relax" (taken from A Tribe Called Quest's "Electric Relaxation"; originally from "Mystic Brew" by jazz great Ronnie Foster).

Come on!

Maybe I'm not being fair enough. Dozens of today's biggest artists have built careers out of re-sampling (not traditional sampling, which is in fact an art form when done tastefully), so attacking Joe for it opens up a whole can of worms too big to discuss in one review. Still, Ain't Nothin' Like Me is enjoyable overall--but it does little to prove that he's your Average Joe.

Your Album is the best I ever heard and I promise to you I am not
lieing. Your new son "If I was your man" oh, my God I loved it.
That video of that song was very well expressed of your song. The
end part was very surprising when I first saw it. I also love that
video you made off Drumline that was the BOM! Oh, yes i still say
the slang BOM as well as THAT WAS OFF THE HOOK. Your CD Ain't
Nothin'Like Me WAS OFF THE HOOK!!! I Love you to the fullest! Your
fan Chantal!
I remember slow-dancing to his song "Happy" with Daniel at our
senior prom. Good memories. :)
I didn't hear the album yet but I know it's really good. Joe has
been retired from the music industry for a while and I was so
surprised to hear that he had a new album releasing along with his
new single " If I Was Your Man" in which I love. Joe has been
singing for a while now as I can remember and his music always has
a vibe that I can dance or sing to. There's no one like Joe.
My alltime favorite album is Joe's "All That I Am" and apparently
he hasn't topped that one. But this one still sounds good.
he is still fine
Wow! I'm surprised that Joe is still around. As someone's who's
not really into the whole R&B scene, the last I heard of him was
Stutter back in 2000. I just gave the new album's samples a listen
and it sounds pretty good. It's definitely worth looking into;
he's got a good voice and the songs don't all sound the same.
I was wondering what happened to Joe. His voice is really good,
and he doesn't have to really TRY to sound good, either.

Although, the sampling thing is beyond old, I agree and I really
hate that after waiting this long to release something else that
we'll end up with a half attempt from him.
