Among my group of friends, I'm probably the biggest "comic geek" around. Any movies based on a graphic novel or series? I'm first in line. So it wasn't surprising that I rallied a group together to attend the midnight showing of Spider-Man 3, what has been rumored to be the last in the trilogy. Though I have never really been a huge fan of the movie franchise, I figured, this is the third and last one, you know they're going to pull out the stops and make it one of the best superhero movies ever. Unfortunately, it was right up there with disappointment along with Superman Returns.
First of all, I have never been a fan of Tobey Maguire as Spidey. While I think he's a phenomenal actor in roles such as Cider House Rules, I couldn't help but wonder why they chose someone who always seem so serious to play NYC's favorite web slinger, who even in his darkest hour will make jokes while kicking someone in the face. Kirsten Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson, is someone I've also never liked for the role. "MJ" in the comics is a strong, stubborn, independent woman, and considered by many fans to be one of the hottest women in the comic universe. I just never got that from Dunst.
While they both do a decent job of tackling the roles, it just didn't feel like I was watching the Spider-Man I grew up with. I know directors feel the need to make movies that have a different feeling to appease the regular movie crowd and die hard comic fans, but Maguire and Dunst should not have been the actors chosen. I didn't even feel there was any good chemistry amongst them and felt I was being forced to believe these two are in love. Even scenes in the movie play off the fact that you can't believe Mary Jane and Peter are together, which should have been amusing, not make you say "yes, you're right."

one and the second one.
But I think that the director could skip a few scenes;) that
wasn't a part of the movie at all and a bit dissapointing or
hilarious.
As I agree with Bellochio, the cast isn't casted the right way but
I think that they still did a great job.
It's soo different from the original comics that, if you like
spiderman of marvel characters, you shouldn't compare this
storyline to the comics storyline because it's so much different.
Thereby I think that the sandman is a good choice for the last
spidey movie because it explains and rolls up the storie about
uncle Ben.
So afterall I did like the movie but that's personal, I had a nice
guy sitting next to me, who is my bf now :P
