Sunless Tanning

Which is best for you?

For most girls, summer means tank tops, flip-flops and a good tan. Even guys enjoy the chance to lose some clothing and bronze up their muscles. With the known risks of sun exposure, ladies have given up laying out poolside with a bottle of baby oil, and guys have learned the value of a good sport sun block. None of this means we can't look beautifully bronzed - we just have to learn how to do it safely.

Self-tanners give a bronzed look without all of the risks of direct sunlight or tanning beds. But with so many choices of different products, it's hard to choose which one works best for you. So to spare your arms and legs from that orange glow (and your pocket book from trial after trial), I did the work for you. After sampling close to a dozen different products, I've picked my top three. All three of these left me with a natural looking tan without those unsightly orange streaks!

I like Loreal Sublime Bronze. But I did go out and by Jergens per
this article, and I like it a lot too. It's very gradual and
natural.
L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze. go buy it. works like a charm, and
bronzes you instantly. Only takes one hour to develop, and looks
incredibly natural!
um, yeah, cHiCcHicKy, get those strange freckles checked out. My
hairdresser's coworker had a strange freckle-looking sun spot, and
it kept on getting irritated, and wouldn't heal every time it got
irritated. She went to the doctor. It ended up being skin cancer.
And she was a religious tanning bed user just like you are. She
had to have a lot of skin on her nose removed, and had to have a
big bandage over it for quite a while. Even still, there's a huge
(and I mean, huge) unsightly scar on her nose where that was.
Don't get skin cancer if you don't have to.
cHiCcHicKy: strange freckles==cancer?
But this is a good article. I have friends who keep tanning
thinking it's healthier to keep it up and they go about 3-4 times
a week for 20 minutes. I keep telling them about different
products for sunless tanning, but they won't listen.
I understand that, but it's too orange looking. The right side
looks better.
cHiCcHicKy - You obviously missed the point.

Sunless tanning lotions offer a no-risk tan. I wish everyone who
went to a tanning bed at least knew the risks they were taking
rather than just seeing it as a cool way to look fake fast.

This is a good article, Susan. I don't really need to get any
darker than I am, but it's still a good read and I can help my
not-so-dark friends without the usual "I don't know". :)
We're talking about ways to avoid skin cancer, not embrace it. We
know the tanning bed option, we were looking for safe
alternatives.
i use tanning beds once a week for 20 mins, it keeps my skin from
being too pale and keeps a nice base tan throughout the year.
recently i had some strange freckles and tried the spray-tanning,
but found it overpriced and a waste of 5 minutes. i looked like a
leopard in areas and it didnt last long. im going to stick with
the beds.
I celebrate my fair skin... lol
She's supposed to be colored on one side and not the other ;-)

Am I the only one who finds the left part of her body in that pic
on the last page to be...kinda orange? I use the Dove stuff once
in a while. Thats like the Jergens you recomended. It has a better
scent and all, but I get sick of putting it on so this year its
all natural, pasty skin.
susan, i love you. this was great in addition to the article you
steered me to a couple weeks ago. i agree about the scent of
jergens natural glow, it doesnt even seem to go away after you've
dried and everything. i think i might have to go find that
coppertone stuff :o)
