Waitress

Instant Indie Classic

Romantic comedies often serve their purpose, giving teen-aged girls something to do on a Friday night -- and 20-something girls something to deny they did on a Friday night.

But, what if they didn't have to deny? What if they could drag their significant others to the theater without guilt? What if, on the way home, they could discuss the film without a hint of irony?

My friends, I give you Waitress.

Keri Russell is Jenna, a popular waitress and "gifted" pie-maker at a small-town, picture perfect diner. Cheryl Hines and Adrienne Shelly are her go-to gal pals, who lightheartedly guide the lovable protagonist through the hardships she encounters after discovering her no-good husband Earl (Jeremy Sisto) has impregnated her. This obviously complicates her pie-in-the-sky Earl Escape Plan. Is she going to have to suffer through a life with her oaf of a spouse?

regis was talking about this movie this morning, he said it was
really good, i want to see it now :o)
Never heard anything about the movie until I read this. I may go
see it now.
Nice review. I like how you wrote it. It makes me want to see this
movie. I like romantic comedies, anyway.
This is one of the first romantic comedies i have seen in a while
that kept me interested the whole time and was not predictable
like the rest. It has some quirky aspects, but thats what makes it
great. I highly reccomend it!!
my use of the word tragic wasn't meant to describe the details of
her death (which were very clearly tragic) but the fact that she
was so talented and we wont get to see another one of her
projects.

maybe, i should have made that last part a bit more clear..
I really want to see this movie. It was a good review, but I don't
think Adrienne Shelly's death casts a tragic shadow over this film
because she won't be a part of the film industry anymore... she
was murdered outside of her apartment building by a construction
worker after they were arguing about noise. THAT is a tragedy, not
the fact that she won't make movies anymore.

Her husband set up a foundation in memory of her and you can check
it out at http://www.adrienneshellyfoundation.org
