As a huge fan of Shrek and Shrek 2, I was very excited to review Shrek the Third. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to my (very high) expectations.
The plot is pretty straightforward. King Harold, the ruler of Far Far Away, is dying, and Shrek (Mike Myers) must either find an heir or become king himself. Just before he dies, King Harold tells Shrek that there IS an heir, Arthur Pendragon. Shrek goes to find Arthur and just before he leaves, Fiona (Cameron Diaz) tells him she's pregnant--a subplot that involves Shrek getting ready to be a dad. Meanwhile, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) is now working at a cheap dinner-theater and is plotting to take over the land with the help of other fairy tale villains. As Shrek rushes Artie (Justin Timberlake) back to the kingdom, Fiona must resist the invading villains with the help of her friends, the Princess Squad. Of course, throughout the movie, there are many fairy tale references, random characters, and countless jokes - some funny, some not so funny.
