Nautical Style

Ahoy fashionistas! Get on board the nautical trend this summer with sea-worthy staples like white shorts, leather loafers, blue and white striped tops and lot of gold accents. As the Spring Runways revealed, cabin fever has struck the fashion world, like a storm on the high seas.

Keep eyes out for gold accents in the form of buttons and necklaces as well as fabrics like linen and cotton. The breezier pants and shorts you can find the better here, conservative and comfortable are fused in sailor-style.

Popularized by Coco Chanel's 1920's sportswear the sailor inspired aesthetic has remained afloat season after season. The chicer cousin of country club style, yachting garb, can be both conservative and couture.

The 2007 spin on the style as shown on Anna Sui's Spring runway is a reformed version of past seasons. No need to look like a sailor about town during fleet week, instead those ladies craving naval crispness should pair their white shorts with a cropped navy blazer to add freshness to the classic sporting-life aesthetic.

From its beginnings, as the look of choice for aspiring Gatsby's, nautical inspired clothing has always been associated with old money, but that doesn't mean you have to empty your wallet to nab this fashion favorite. There is plenty of knock-off booty to nab from Old Navy to American this look can be affordable and adorable.

I never really cared about the nautical trend.
"I was way into it last year before it became a trend."

Uh, I'm not sure where you were last year, but the nautical look
was huge last year (bigger than it is this year, as it's sort of
on the way out).
I love the sailor/nautical look! I was way into it last year
before it became a trend. I asked for an anchor necklace and got
one for Christmas, and I have expanded my wardrobe! I have long
white shorts that are high rose with navy blue buttons on the
front, a blue and white striped shirt, and even a nautical looking
dress! It's definitely a cute look. Can't say the shoes look too
sailor/nautical styled though...
