Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
Midway (Nintendo Wii)

The time has come: Nintendo Wii has received a port that not only compliments the exclusivity of the Wiimote motion-sensored gameplay, but is leagues better than the graphically-superior versions on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's main attraction is its inspired controls - hold only the B button and wave the Wiimote side to side, up, down, all around to perform the various special moves each character has at their disposal. All player movement is controlled by the Nunchuk with all the standard punches; kicks and jumps relegated to the directional pad.

At first, the regular moves being "tapped" on the directional pad is a bit...weird for lack of better wording. The good news is that it ends up being surprisingly top-notch after a few rounds of fighting; it just takes some getting used to.

After the initial shock of true-blue virtual fighting sets in, the game's plethora of options look that much more appetizing. Armageddon includes all of the classic fighters from the first batch of games--Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Kitana--along with modes-a-plenty, like the cutesy "Motor Kombat" cart race game and the RPG-styled "Konquest" adventure. Rounding out this already-stuffed package are the customizable options, Kreate-A-Fighter and Kreate-A-Fatality, both of which give players enough options to make each one a worthwhile time-waster in between rounds.
