Tattoos

Kiwi's tell all

Tattoos are an age old art form of personal expression. Whether you want to be an individual, be reminded of who you are (or what you can be), or use it as a means to connect, tattoos are permanent form of expression, and they always have a story to follow. Since it's the Red, White, and Blue issue, we asked Kiwi's to show us their red, white, and/or blue tattoos and tell us why they decided to get inked.

Any Serviceman Would Be Proud to Come Home To...

Brandie, better known as h0t_p0cket, got her tattoo in honor of her husband. Right before he left for the army's basic training, she got this tattoo in patriotic colors for him with the words "I PROMISE."

I have five tattoos and I don't regret any of them.. I actually
plan on getting several more here in the future.
i have2 tattoos but i regret one of them real bad
I had a lot of fun writing this article for the simple fact that I
love hearing why people got certain tattoos or what inspired them.
I'm glad everyone was willing to share theirs with me :-)
i always said i would never get a tattoo. but on the 15 year
anniversery of my sisters death i was so sad and wanted a way to
better remember her so I got a cross with a banner that says in
loving memory of samantha. i love it. and i think it is very
meaningful
I loved this article. I liked how the photographs were included
and the explaination of what they meant to each person. Very
nicely done!
I got my first tat the morning of my 18th birthday, my grandma
didnt want me to get it, but did. i got my lastname on the lower
part of my neck (still hidable for profession reasons). i
absolutly love it, and when i showed my granny she liked it too
because she thought it would look tacky but it didnt. i believe my
tattoo is meaningful because i am the last person to carry on my
family name, im not sure if i am going to change it when i get
married. but i like my tat!!!
Awesome article. I just got a tattoo about a month ago, and my
sister has four. I think the most important thing, other than the
actual tattoo, is the placement. If you want to be a professional
in any area, tattoos are still a bit of a disadvantage if you
can't hide them easily, even if they are simple or small.

I have 2 tats. and i plan on getting one more for my baby girl.
But im going to wait and let her personality decide what im
getting so its meaning full.
I got 2 when I was 16, and my 3rd the day after I turned 17. I'm
waiting until my 18th birthday to get my 4th one and that will
probably be it. All three of mine have meaning, and they're not
anything that I could out grow. Getting tattoos doesn't hurt, but
getting them removed (I'm told) hurts like hell so think it
through before you get inked up.
One of the most important things to me about getting my tattoos
was that they meant something to me instead of just putting them
on my body and finding out that years later I hated them.

That's why each of mine are something meaningful to me:

My very first is a purple rose on the small of my back, and above
it I have the name "Keech" written in cursive. On the left side of
the rose was the day my cousin was born, and then on the right the
date that she passed away.

My second one I got at 18 years old, a big emblem of the Yankees
(The baseball with the word Yankees written in it, with a bat for
the stem of the K with a tophat on it.) I've been a fan since I
was able to grasp the concept of baseball.

The third one I got when I was a sophomore in college; its a
design that my friend made for me of two beta fish twisted in the
Pisces sign (for obvious reasons)

And the fourth (but not final) is my Sacred Heart of Mary on my
chest for my Aunt Mary that passed away two years ago. I called
her "Yaye" all of my life, so instead of a sword piercing the
heart I opted for a Ribbon across it with her nickname written on
it.
I have two, both have very significant meaning to me, even if
others don't understand. I have four more on the way. I love the
outlet that tats give people to express.
"Some of those tattoos need touch-ups because they look like they
are fading."

My tattoo looks much better in person than it does in that
picture. Especially since it had to be shrunk down. That may be
the case qith some of the others as well.
I have a star on my wrist with my moms intials tattooed on the
right side and the '02 on the left because she died in 2002. I
have the star because my moms nickname was always star and she
signed letters and such with just a little star. I was actually
able to take a star she had drawn on a note before she died and
get it exactly as she had drawn it.

I love my tattoo because it has meaning. And I definantly agree
that tattoos are insanely addicting, I want more. :]
> Some of those tattoos need touch-ups because they look like they

im aware. the plan was to get it touched up when i went home, but
thats not happening now. pregnancy and tattoos dont mix.
i have three tattoos and they all represented something at one
time. now they are pointless to me cause i think i have out grown
those stages of my life. the worst part is im only 18 and have the
rest of my life with these marks of no meaning.
I have a tattoo on the back of my neck and it's not finished.
Under it it's gonna have a wolf face and under that it will say
promise. Resembling, I promise to keep wolves from dying off.
They are beautiful animals.

The sparrow's tattoo is beautiful by the way.
i have three tattoos right now.. my very first one i got when i
was 17.. it was my star sign, a scorpion.. my second was a treble
and a base clef intertwined because i play the violin and the
cello.. the last one i have is a music not with wings because of
my music.. and by the end of the summer, i will have the biohazard
sign with rings around it.. it'll be like a chemical atom, except
the nucleus will be the biohazard sign.. i'm gettin that one for
my college major, medical laboratory science.. all are in spots
that can be hidden in professional situations :-)

i agree with 11stargirl11 that tattoos are addicting.. once you
get the first, you just wanna keep getting more..
I love those tattoos, they're really nice. It's great when they
have meaning behind them.

I got my first tattoo a few months ago and it's three lilies on my
lower back, I got lilies because my grandparents have called me
Lily for as long as I can remember...One of the lilies is open and
the other two are closed, the middle one stands for my mother and
the closed ones stand for me and my little brother.

Tattoos are really addictive I'm going for my next two really
soon. My friend and I are getting little hearts on our feet
because we've been friends for so long and I'm getting cherries on
my wrist because I have an obsession with cherries and I figured
if that one needs to be covered up I can just wear a watch. =)
Some of those tattoos need touch-ups because they look like they
are fading.

I love the sparrows, it is beautiful.
my dad owns a tattoo parlor in South Florida, so all of this is
really cool to me (: and the one with the sparrows is magnificent!
I've never been in a kiwi article before :) That was cool. And I
love the tattoo with the sparrows. It's beautiful.
my sister and i were rivals growing up, and we have come to be
best friends, unfortunately, through our parents' brutal divorce.
we plan to get the word SISTERS tattooed on our wrists below our
palms
aw i like all of them too! I think tatoos are great when they have
meaning behind them
Even though I'm 16, I got my tattoo in April. My dad, brother, &
best friend went with me. Its a tribal-style heart on my back left
shoulder. It was two swirls to the side of it, which reminds me of
wings. People just see a heart, but it has a special meaning to me
that I don't talk about. :)
heart_of_gold i love ur tattoo
i plan to get 3 tattoos.

the first one is going to be a unicorn wit my mom's inicials on my
hip. she past away about 4 yrs ago, and she loved unicorns.

also, i want to get one on my lower back that is a rose seeming to
go through my skin, a drop of blood at both the entry and where it
appears to be coming back out. then a ribbon that has my mom's
full name on it, including maiden name, and having the end of the
robbon look like a Maltese Flag [her herritage].

The third is rather simple, jus two little hands that represent my
love for sign language. i want this somewhere around my colar
bone n shoulder.

i'm only 17 1/2 right now though. and i don plan to get all of
these right when i turn 18 anyway. jus when the timeing feels
right.
me and my best friend both have the same tattoo..we both have
angel wings on our backs...only mine are black with a halo over
them in honor of my sister (who had wings put on her back before
she died) my best friend, Lilly, has white wings on her back in
honor of her father who passed away when she was a baby. i love
the tattoo's in the article!
*grins* Great article. Loved seeing all the tats up here, and it
was really cool to see my own!
Angela's tattoo is beautiful. Everyone has different reasons for
getting them, but they are all so deep and meaningful. That's why
I could never understand why some people could hate tattoos. They
mean so much to the people that get them. But then again, if a
tattoo doesn't have a meaning I think it's retarded to get one...
but that's just me.
I want to get a tattoo. I've been wanting to get one for a few
years now. But, there are a few things that I have to do before I
get one. I have to work up the courage to get it done and I have
to save enough money for one.
All the tats look really good. My tat is the chinese symbol for
'Father' with the year he was born above and the year he died
below. Me and my dad were never really close, in fact when he past
away we were in a fight and i regret that everyday. I never got to
say goodbye the right way, so getting my tattoo was in a
way, saying goodbye but having him with me forever at the same
time.
me and my bff are getting matching tattoos. we're using the lyrics
from a spice girls song.. the song "goodbye". then surrounding the
lyrics we're gonna have stars. i loved all the tattoos i seen!
I love them! They were all cool (especaly the birds on pg2). I'm
thinking of getting one myself when I turn 18 in a few months.
It is very cool to see all these tattoos.
All the tats are awesome!! :) This was definitely interesting to
read.
those tattoos are awesome and so pretty! thanks for sharing you
kick ass kiwis! :)
