Shop BoyzRockstar Mentality

Meet Sheed, Meany and Fat - the Shop Boyz. One would initially think that they are stereotypical southern rappers, singing about their struggles in the past, and but of course sex and drugs. Luckily, this group of young rappers have taken a chance and broke away from the stereotypical rap music. Instead they have come out with a subgenre of rap they call "hood rock." Hood rock incorporates a diverse range of genres into their album, with rock holding a strong base for most of their songs which is reflected in their first hit single "Party Like a Rockstar."
"We would listen to what everybody else was doing and we thrived on not doing what everybody else was doing. We didn't want to be just like them and that's not disrespecting them but we want to create our own lane, not follow somebody else's path," says Sheed. Rockstar Mentality proves this statement true.
Although their voices may sound very similar to Dem Franchise Boyz and the Ying Yang Twins, don't get it twisted - they are very unique in terms of their lyrics and actual song make-up. The album features songs such as "Rollin'," which has a traditional surf music sound, almost Beach Boy like. "Rockstar Mentality" has a beat that sounds much like a baseball anthem.
Contrary to the norm of today's rappers reputation, the Shop Boyz don't look down on women, but rather show them appreciation and respect which is reflected in "Next to Me." Overall the album is very creative, energetic and has a lot of potential to win over fans of both rap and rock.
Rockstar Mentality is edgy, upbeat and unlike any other kind of music. The Shop Boyz have most certainly taken their music to a different level in the music industry.
