A Girl's Key to the Globe

Her Second Best Friend

Although it is a long-standing fact that diamonds are a girl's best friend, the quarter--as in your everyday 25 cent coin--has gone far too long without any recognition. Granted, diamonds are sparkly and pretty, but let's focus on function over fashion here. What purpose do diamonds have besides draining your significant other's pockets? Considerably cheaper and lighter, the quarter can be used for many tasks you probably rarely even think about.

For example, though many people now own cell phones, there was a time when pay phones were the only means of on-the-go communication. True, 911 calls are free, but urgent messages aren't limited life and death situations and those calls have a fee. In the communication time a quarter provides, you can call a cab from the airport, execute an anonymous prank call... the possibilities are, just as with a regular phone, endless. Serious or silly, the choice is yours! ...Just remember to pick up the phone before inserting the coin.

Quarters can be spent on things other than communication; however. Whether you're looking for an outlet for some persistent nerves or merely feel like blowing a few sticky bubbles, you can purchase a 25 cent gumball wherever you turn around. Don't feel like chewing? Maybe quenching your thirst on a hot summer day sounds more appealing. Usually a quarter is enough to buy a glass of juice from the enthusiastic young entrepreneur on the corner.

Where I live it cost 75 cents to ride the public bus. Which I use
to get home from school. I really like this article.
parking meters
laundry
a bag of chips or popcorn

its true that you can't use change anymore because it cost here 75

used for much.
