How-To: Set Up a Concert

Picture this: You, or a friend of yours, are currently in this amazingly talented band, but no one really knows about you, outside of doting mothers and extended family. The thought of getting more publicity seems amazing, yet daunting. While you may not have the means to create your own Woodstock, you most certainly can construct your own local concert.

Now you may be asking yourself, "How in the world would I be able to create my own concert? Isn't it a lot of work and too costly by any rational standard?" Well, of course you need to put some time and dedication into this creation, but you certainly don't have to be famous, a millionaire, or a famous millionaire to pull off a local showcase as professional as possible.

Money may seem like such a necessity when it comes to hosting an event, but that isn't always true (hint: think benefit, fundraiser). So let's go through the steps of how you'd go about creating your own local concert.

Determine your goal

First things first: Determine what the goal of the concert is. Whether you'd like to put together a showcase or play for a benefit the steps are relatively similar. Once that is decided figure out who your target audience will be. If the concert is for a benefit, it's extremely important to find out what type of music will attract people to come see the concert. After all, it's doubtful that a Death Metal band will fare well with the Adult-Alternative crowd!
