Eat Me, Drink Me

...And down the rabbit hole we go, spiraling down into the psyche of Marilyn Manson, one of the most notorious, controversial and misunderstood artists of the past decade.

Throughout the years, Marilyn Manson (real name Brian Warner) has subjected his cultish followers to brash social commentary, gruesome horrorcore and pitch-black industrial music. Now, with the release of Eat Me, Drink Me he has concocted his most venomous statement to date: Love is real, and I'm in it!

Who would've ever fantasized in their wildest of nightmares that Manson would deploy sentiments of love and happiness to the dark-hoodied community?

Funny thing is, Manson has always been a softie of sorts, giving his fans an outsider point-of-view on American values (or lack thereof) only because they so desperately asked for it. One re-listen of his most recent work - a Depeche Mode cover ("Personal Jesus"), cute and quaint soundtrack throwaways, The Golden Age of Grotesque's n00b goth - prove that Manson has been shedding his gloom for glam, little by little.

Eat Me, Drink Me, besides being a nod to Alice in Wonderland, is Manson's Valentines Day party, where everything that glitters is goth - and the bubbly is bloody, but bubbly nonetheless. "If I Was Your Vampire" is a paean of love to a pale-skinned siren - it could've been written years earlier about Rose McGowan, but who knows? - that borders on the cheesy but comes out winning triumphantly with dimly-lit guitars and moody vocals.
