Americanization

You can't miss it!

As I sit reading all the summer articles posted on Kiwibox lately, I think to myself "gee doesn't the American summer look so much nicer?" Living in the southern hemisphere I think at some point we are all envious of summer camps and white Christmases. As a non-American, I am able to notice certain, distinct attitudes toward Americans. There are those people who are in love with everything American and the others that are the opposite. These two attitudes are the result of one cause, Americanization.

All politics and hostility aside, the United States of America is arguably among the most powerful countries in history. Think about it, many of our household appliances were first created or discovered by Americans, and later fine tuned by others. Even school and college textbooks are mostly written by Americans. Americans seem to be able to come up with some superfluous piece of junk and sell it to everyone in the world as if it's a necessity. Really, if that's not powerful then I don't know what is.

I agree. Another example is the way that British keyboards have £
and $ keys, whereas the US only has the $.
I really enjoyed reading this perspective. Well done.
