Summer Internships

Kiwis Share Experiences, Advise

During high school, most students spend their summers life guarding, waiting tables or running a cash register. They pick places that are close to home and will line their pockets with a few extra bucks. Once they hit college, though, they're looking for something different. More and more college students are turning to internships to build up their resumes.

Thinking about pursuing an internship? Here, some Kiwibox users share their experiences and advise.

Heather (Roswelliscool on Kiwibox) is a senior in college and majoring in integrated marketing. Last semester she snagged an internship at NBC in the Entertainment Publicity department.

"Being an intern is a lot of grunt work," she said. "I assembled the daily clip packet (a packet of all the mentions each publicist's show got in all the media outlets), would run errands, pass out the magazines and basically do whatever they told me to do. It all paid off though for the few days where I did get to do exciting things like go to an NBC red carpet event and escort talent down the carpet and visiting the sets of Heroes and ER. Not to mention all the random celebrities that would drop by (like Ashton Kutcher, Allison Sweeney and Masi Oka)."

Good point mike! "and if they are unpaid STILL TAKE IT," ---- I
had to pay, minimally, but had to pay for mine, and could barely
hold my normal job with it, but it was still worth it. First one
to get hired out of my education class ;-)
yeah great article...ditto ditto....

internships are SO good for your resume, and just for general
experience and knowledge.

and if they are unpaid STILL TAKE IT, as money is so fleeting and
it will come down the road, dont worry about that. the few grand
you lose by not working a paying job is NOTHING compared to the
extra 20k you are going to make per year with some great
internship experience.

rock it!
Great article. Very interesting.
thats cool
