Queens of the Stone AgeEra Vulgaris

Recently the boys in Queens of the Stone Age released their 5th album, titled Era Vulgaris. As with every previous release, fans did not know what to expect from this album in terms of who was going to be featured on it, let alone what weird, cool sounds and riffs will be on the album. Frontman Josh Homme strives to surprise his fans but giving them the excitement of being different from the rest. This is the mentality that gives QOTSA the rock and roll credibility it has today as well as a hardcore cult following. All this said, Homme and the rest of QOTSA have produced a true rock scorcher different from any other.
Era Vulgaris translates from Latin to mean "The Common Era." Homme liked the title because it sounded more like "The Vulgar Era," an era he believes we are currently in as stated in an interview with online indie magazine Pitchfork. Era Vulgaris represents the route modern rock should be taking rather then the current, uncreative and repetitive one-way street most of the industry is traveling on these days.
The album does not stray from the band's unique style and sound that makes them who they are. This sound - raw and rugged without compromise - has been forgotten in this modern industry and is only carried on by people such as QOTSA's Josh Homme and The White Stripes' Jack White, both of which are considered to be artists not of their time.
