I have no fear of losing my life - if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it. - Steve IrwinSteve Irwin is my hero. I know many people don't like him for various reasons, but I adored him and still watch his show every chance I get. A person that can love an animal as much as he did deserves respect, especially after all he's done for animals - and humans - around the world.
Steve was known for running the Australian Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland, and of course for his television show, The Crocodile Hunter. It was one of the few wildlife shows that seemed to actually help animals, instead of just showing them to the world.
Steve was born on February 22, 1962. His parents founded the Australian Zoo, so he grew up with reptiles and began handling them at a young age. When he was six years old he was given a 12-foot scrub python to care for. He started to handle and wrestle crocodiles at the age of nine.
After graduating high school he became a croc trapper. Working for free, Steve trapped crocodiles and brought them back to his zoo. In the late '90s Steve had begun work for not only the Australian Zoo, but also the Wildlife Warriors and the International Crocodile Rescue.
