Taking You To Another World

With the unparalleled success of such books and films as Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, it has become increasingly evident that today's generation has a penchant for fantasy. Beyond obvious commercial successes, however, there is much more fantasy in the world of film to be discovered. Considering the breadth of the fantasy genre and the time it would take to sift through the films to find the greats, we did the grunt work for you and compiled this list of fantastically fun films, both widely heralded and lesser known.

10. Sky High: This is a fun movie about a normal teenage boy whose parents happen to be superheroes. Will Stronghold attends the only high school for kids with superpowers, but instead of being labeled a "Hero," he's only known as a "sidekick". However, he must learn to find his powers to save his family from an evil villain.

9. Underworld: A movie about vampires vs. werewolves. It merges imagination, love, adventure, and action together as truth and trust between friends, companions, and strangers are tested.

um sky high isnt what i was expecting as fantasy. one movie i was
thinkin, Hook. i never heard of willow before.
What? Star Wars is clearly a Sci-Fi film not a Fantasy film and we
can argue that they are the same or they are not the same, but I'm
telling you, it's a Sci-Fi film, not a fantasy film.

And yes I agree where is Labyrinth??

LOTR do you realize that more than the fact that it was an amazing
work of accomplishment by Peter Jackson and his team that spent
about seven years dedicated to this project but it's a film about
ridding something so powerful and so evil that only the smallest
and most innocent of beings have the capabilities to destroy it?
Also, the man who wrote the novels was the man to create and set
the terms for how fantasy epics should be like? Read all the
fantasy books, they all take after Tolkien in one sense or
another.
oh i so agree with this list. except for sky high, meh, oh well.
lotr and star wars are two of my favorite movie trilogies
everrrrrr (next to potc. it should have been on the list.) and the
neverending story was my favorite movie as a child. and val kilmer
was smexy as mad martigan in willow. aww the memories ^_^
i agree w/ blood_and_gold. Labyrinth was awesome. the first movie
i ever rented and one of the first i ever bought.
I agree with most of these movies, however, Sky High!?
Underworld!? Peter Pan!? I'm not saying that they're bad movies,
but in place of those: Labyrinth, Harry Potter series &
Beeltejuice (or any Tim Burton film).
I saw the peter pan movie that was really good =D star wars SO
puts the socks on rocks =DD
mirror mask!!! it should have been included.
Aren't Star Wars and The Fifth Element considered Sci Fi, not
fantasy?
Aw man, I *love* Spirited Away. It is soooo awesome. And the
Neverending Story is pretty much the shizzle. When I was younger,
I had the biggest crush on the guy who plays Atreyu, LoL.

I'm so happy to see fantasy becoming popular again. Not too long
ago, it was a fading genre, it seemed. thrilled to see the
comeback.

*laughs* I wasn't expecting Star Wars to get first place.

But I love your top 3 picks. :)
why do you need someone to tell you that HP is a fantasy movie? it
only made the freakin front page, no need to cry because it wasnt
mentioned in this filler article
what bout that movie?
I havent seen it yet, but i want to.
One of my favourites is still Labyrinth. The manga spin-off is
good as well. Jareth is love. =)

Of course, Star Wars was influential to my youth, as I kind of had
a thing for Han Solo.
Because HP got his own article:
