What Users Dream of for the Future

If you asked a group of adults what they thought teenagers were looking for in life, you'd get a list like this: nice car, beautiful significant other, big house and money to spare. It's an image of the fast life - rich and carefree - and has become synonymous with "generation plastic" the not-so-affectionate nickname given to the current crop of teenagers.

The perception isn't too surprising. With devices like iPods and cell phones having become as essential as air and water, and shows like My Super Sweet 16, the picture being painted of the generation is a dismal one. But are today's teens really that different from those 50 years ago? Adults would probably be surprised.

When asked what their dreams for the future were, two-thirds of Kiwibox users replying to the poll included some aspect of family into their response. Whether simply acknowledging that they would like to someday get married or laying out a more solid plan for how many kids they'd like to have, family was the most popular response by far. Another telling aspect was that the poll's participants failed to designate any specifics of their future partner; no one said they wanted a beautiful spouse or a rich spouse. In fact, when asked what their perfect world would be like, not one person even ventured into saying they would like to marry a celebrity. (Sorry Jonny, it seems most girls would rather stick with their current boyfriends than become the future Mrs. Depp )

this is a really good article, even better if adults read it.
i agree at least someone out there relizes that not every teenager
out there is trying to be all rich and high class.
What a nice article. Most articles that I read today are stating
the opposite or at least focusing on the opposite. It's good to
see that people are recognizing the fact that not all of us are
superficial with high expectations.
