Constantine MaroulisConstantine

American Idol star, Constantine Maroulis, is set to release his self-titled debut album on August 7, 2007. For those of you who don't remember who Constantine is, he was the performer from American Idol's fourth season who would always look into the camera as if he was some sexy stud-muffin. He's the competitor who left Paula Abdul astounded when voted off. Most of all, he was the musician who had "the best sense of showmanship"...according to Abdul.
Since Constantine was voted off American Idol (he came in sixth place) he has boosted both his music and acting career. Constantine starred in Broadway's performance of The Wedding Singer as Sammy in the fall of 2006. He is currently starring in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful as Constantine Parros, a record producer and singer.
Constantine is a fairly diverse and electrifying album. Although I cannot say that I'm a fan of every song, they all reflect his vocal range and talent. He is not just some cornflake, but rather a very skilled musician. Granted, I must state that some of his lyrics are a little on the cheesy side. In "Favorite T-Shirt" he sings "I just want back my ****/ Before we are history I'm taking my favorite t-shirt and Purple Rain record too/ I believe they're overdue/ No they don't belong to you." Greedy, are we?
Judging by the cover alone, it is obvious that the CD would be entertaining. He has the typical "stud-muffin" look sitting on the floor in what seems to be an empty room. The album is filled with songs that I absolutely love, while others I could have done without. "Everybody Loves" instantly puts you in a good mood with upbeat and catchy lyrics, "Everybody loves, everybody cries/ Everybody dreams of a perfect life/ and that's all right." "Midnight Radio" is a sparkling, beautiful song that emotes more than your average Idol alumni slow jam. Constantine also brings back old favorites such as "Girl Like You" and "So Long."
The variety on the CD shows that Constantine was made for this industry, incorporating a lot of emotion into every song he performs. Constantine may not have won American Idol, but he certainly has won in other aspects of the music industry.
