Heading out for a day of fun at a water or amusement park, the last thing on anyone's mind is sun protection. The upside down batman thriller that accelerates at 100 miles per second; however, isn't the only danger lurking behind the entrance. The unrelenting rays of the sun are a lot more likely to cause permanent damage than a scream inducing thrill ride. Many of today's kids and teens head outside on a daily basis unprotected from the sun, and many of them do not realize the dangers that are upon them. The sun is harsh on everybody whether you are outside for 5 minutes or 50 minutes. With just a few easy steps you can keep yourself protected from the damaging effects of the sun's harmful rays.

First, let's discuss the effects of sun on the human body. The sun can cause skin cancer and eye damage just to name a couple. These are nothing to take lightly. These effects of the sun will stay with you for the rest of your life, so take time to prevent them now.

Some facts to think about:

-"About 23 percent of lifetime sun exposure occurs before the age of 18"

-"Just one or two blistering sunburns in childhood may double the risk of developing melanoma"

-"Most of the more than 1 million cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer diagnosed yearly in the United States are considered to be sun-related"

-"If your shadow is shorter than you are, the sun is at its highest intensity"
